Opeth Albums no. 4

   I'm leaning towards Ghost Reveries, but I still like Watershed. Both albums have that proggy tendencies, abundance of softer sections, clean vocals, prominent mellotron & keys and so on. Watershed has Heir Apparent which is a 5 star track, and some good stuff happening in each song, i.e. outro of Burden or metallish parts of Hessian Peel, The Lotus Eater etc. But at times I drift away, not all structures are that captivating - it's okay in the background but I don't pay attention as much.

Ghost Reveries has a bit of fluff too, but that powerful trio of Ghost of Perdition, Baying of the Hounds and Beneath the Mire is spot on. A bit soft in the middle, but comes back very strong with The Grand Conjuration. I also think atmosphere is better or, hmm, more "relatable" on Reveries. When it comes to solos, Watershed feels generic at times, just run of the mill metal stuff... Perhaps that's the difference between Lindgren and Åkesson.

	Ghost Reveries. Probably my favorite "heavy" Opeth album alongside Blackwater Park.

	Love both these albums, but Ghost Reveries is not only my favorite Opeth album, but one of my top 5, maybe even 3 albums of all time. Watershed has a really cool bleak vibe to it. But GR is just an hour of non-stop headbanging, god I love that album. Ghost of Perdition is a song that peaks every 30 seconds.

	Two fantastic Opeth releases before they turned away from death metal. Admittedly, if you compare these to 1995-2002 stuff, it's clear Mikael was becoming more interested in "lighter", more prog rock type of sound; still, these two have a fair share of neckbreaking riffs and guttural grunts. Which is better though?
