there is something I have learned from Friede (who is a professional translator): if in doubt look up the meaning of the word in a dictionary. so here goes:

snob   Audio pronunciation of "snob" ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (snb)
n.

  1. One who tends to patronize, rebuff, or ignore people regarded as social inferiors and imitate, admire, or seek association with people regarded as social superiors.
  2. One who affects an offensive air of self-satisfied superiority in matters of taste or intellect

I suppose the question refers to the 2nd meaning. my opinion then it is a tie between all 4. since I like all 4 at least partially (not to the full extent though), I guess I am hyper-snobbish. why do I talk with you vermin at all?

I think there's far more snobbery amongst Prog fans than I have ever encountered in classical circles...(maybe I haven't looked hard enough)..
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Classic (< that is the proper term, I do believe) followed closely by Prog in general. If you know Classic well, I think you may agree. But really, Classic and Prog are about the same.

Though really, we're on a par with most classical snobs.

Agreed.

Avant-garde is elitism at its finest.

(I would also like to say that a lot of post-rock is pretty snobbish )
