Steve Strange, looking slightly less strange than normal - at least by 1980's New Romantic standards. Smile

Has to be 'The Gift' by the Jam - no other album has quite summed the state of Britain in the space of two sides of a slab of vinyl.

EC's Imperial Bedroom - one of my favorite 80s albums of any genre.  The critics loved it - remember the "Masterpiece?" promotions in the record shops? - but it never really took off in the US.   I remember Beyond Belief getting a quick bit of FM airplay beyond the college stations, but then the big MTV hit Everyday I Write the Book came out and Imperial Bedroom got lost in the shuffle.
I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

Top Gun (1986) was when Berlin really took off for me. Their previous albums completely flew over my head at the time. Embarrassed

You've inspired to put together a series of Post-Punk polls - starting from 1980 - which'll include U2, REM, The Smiths, and many others who weren't in this poll. Smile

Indeed - a superb album. Released over 40 years ago. Where does the time go?

4 stars 1982: Depeche Mode - A Broken Frame - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hN9tv_XGP0

A mixed reaction from critics to Depeche Mode's second album, with Melody Maker describing it as "ambitious and bold, marking the end of a beautiful dream", but conversely, Smash Hits dismisses the album as "tinkly-bonk wimsy", which leaves me speechless, so I'll just Leave in Silence. Confused

4 stars 1982: China Crisis - Difficult Shapes and Passive Rhythms - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lQJUi-xOWRentDOa08wmyg2ZGMEHQFPXs

Crisis? What Crisis? The first album from China Crisis sometimes deals with difficult subjects and political hot potatoes, such as African and White, where there are no prizes for guessing it's all about the apartheid regime in South Africa, but who knows what my favourite song Christian is all about? Ermm

4 stars 1982: Berlin - Pleasure Victim - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrpyDacBCh7DuovhR_PgCoQkVUn3vVpdW

A favourite song from Berlin's best-selling album. Tell Me Why Terri Nunn and Berlin from L.A. are nowhere near as popular or well-known as Debbie Harry and Blondie in NYC? After all, Deborah Harry doesn't take my breath away in quite the same way as Terri Nunn did. Smile
