Thanks! You just reminded me that it's time to start putting together the 2009 poll.

Nice poll. I like some of them very much but since I love too 01011001 of Ayreon and it has no vote till now, my vote goes to it.

Not very familiar with this year. From the few I have heard I pick Abel Ganz.

Birds and Buildings > Beardfish > Abel Ganz. I'm not a professor of inches, but I am a clawfoot bathtub with a pony as a sidekick.

I'm curious why the 2nd rated album of that year was omitted Discesa Agl'Inferi d'un Giovane Amante by Il Bacio Della Medusa, but most of the rest are here. Anyway, that would've been my choice.

Moon Safari, just ahead of Ayreon! It Bites and Martin Orford albums are also top notch😎
I love Ayreon, but the last two albums were not as good, especially Transitus. One of my all time favourite acts 😊 |

I haven't listened to this band in years. I need to change that. Touchstone is another band I need to listen to soon.

^^ I don't want to turn this thread into an Ayreon conversation, but although I've never liked any of them (and the Star One even less)... I did enjoy the first Stream Of Passion album he was involved in and again The Gentle Storm was also pretty good, as was Guilt Machine... maybe some of his diluted side-projects with other artists were more to my taste?

I'm a big fan of Ayreon too, but even I'd have to agree that all of their albums sound the same after awhile.

Yes, there were more users into progressive metal back then, some of them quite knowledgeable. I did listen to Ayreon for a little while, but no more, I've grown tired of them. I have also listened to a few other Arjen projects and bands, just my curiosity getting the worst of me. There are a few other bands i gave up on, but that's another story.

Well, you know I've never liked them at all personally, so I don't want to have a dig... as you know, I was fairly active in the forums here 2005-2008, and sporadically in between. What I had noticed between the two 'eras' are how there seem to be some bands who used to have a loyal fanbase amongst PA members during that time, that don't have the same traction these days... I think there was a greater focus on prog-metal back then (there were always threads on DT!) I suppose I was wondering whether some bands from that 'middle' period have stood the test of time better than others?
