 Topic: "Infatuation" Albums

If I have to think of musical infatuation, I would probably remember the time - over 20 years ago - when I used to listen to a lot of heavy metal and buy a lot of albums as well. Now I've still got the records (vinyl is too valuable to be thrown away carelessly), but I wouldn't dream of listening to most of them, let alone buying them in their CD versions. There are exceptions, of course - Metallica's peerless "Master of Puppets", most of Iron Maiden's earlier production, something from Megadeth, Judas Priest.... - but, to tell the truth, my fascination with metal has waned.
As to endless love.... the list would be quite long: Yes's "The Yes Album", "Fragile" and the immortal CTTE, most of KC's albums up to 1974, ELP's "great six", Genesis' SEBTP, Pink Floyd with Roger Waters, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin.... I love them now as I loved them the first time I ever heard them.

I treat all albums with that expectation one gets when opening a box of chocolates...
- Infatuation: Yes - Close to the Edge - I played it endlessly for weeks when I first got it. Now it is on the odd occassion. The same with Jethro Tull's - Aqualung; ELP's - "Trilogy" and "Tarkus".
- Kate Bush - Aerial - I am still playing this almost on a daily basis since it has been released. Don't get tired of listening to this album which I now consider to be her "Magnum Opus".
I find that I give albums thorough listenings for about two or three weeks before they are retired for a while and as my mood for different genres of music changes.

Most Hawkwind stuff I have that reaction to , fun at first but I don`t seem to stick with it

I went through an infatuation period with Anathema's Judgement. I still enjoy this album and returning to it feels like making contact with an old flame Going through an infatuation phase with Dream Theater right now, as it's my first time listening to their music, and it's excellent!

I guess I`m infatuated with a couple of albums
The Inner Mounting Flame from The Mahavishnu Orchestra, can`t get enough of those wierd timesignatures and overdriven guitars!
Dance Of The Flames from Guru Guru- Ican`t listen to side one without playing it over more than twice!

Cant think of anythink in prog but I used to listen to the Chili Peppers a lot, but hadly listen to them anymore.
Dream Theaters Scenes From A Memory I listen to at least 2 or 3 times a week and still love it as much as I did the first time I heard it.
As for an album that I started of liking but not loveing before it grew on me would be Genesis, Foxtrot. At the time I got it I thought this is ok but a bit weird, now it's my second favourit album after SFAM.

It has happened to me with Zappa's albums in general. I have six or seven of them I used to play a lot and now I don't even know where they are  (except "Hot Rats", that I still like).

Unfortunately,I have the opposite "system" - infatuation-less - "all are bad before they're good"  I'm too sceptic(there are thousands of reasons why ),and there are not so many albums which I liked from the first time - Marillion's SCRIPT,Kaipa's debut,Locanda Delle Fate's debut...I remember,I gave 4 stars here to Collage's Moonshine...GOD,I REGRET!!!It really worth 5/5 stars!!! I remember the same situation as for Shadowland's debut...

For me a huge episode of infatuation began with Miles Davis Bitches Brew. It started there and sent me into a finger clicking roller coaster of Jazz mania. Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, tonnes of sampler discs. I totally disregarded all rock- it was Jazz or nothing baby. Then I found Frank Zappas Hot Rats (great album) which led me to Captain Beefheart. Since Beefheart I,ve never been the same.

Pink Floyd - The Wall and DSTOM
I got bored with those albums because, when I was a kid, they were the first albums that I really liked and I listened to them a zillion times. I think they are both great albums but I'll never intentionaly put them in my CD player these days. I don't care if one of my friend puts it on when I'm there because I love these albums. I just won't listen to them by myself.

I've been infatuated by every Pain of Salvation CD so far, mostly Remedy Lane and The Perfect Element though.
I was really infatuated with Pig Destroyer's Terrifyer when it came out, but that's not prog... Same with Agoraphobic Nosebleed's Altered States of America,
Lets see, prog, deffinitely Marillion's Clutching at Straws, Fates Warning's Awaken the Guardian, Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime, Spiral Architects-Sceptic's Universe, Genesis' Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. All of these I listened to endlessly when I firts got them, some of them I return to again and again, actually just about all of them haha.
Oh yeah, and I'm still listening to Nevermore's This Godless Endeavor, I've been having all sorts of enfatuation periods with that since it came out. Again not prog, but deffinitely a great album.

Infatuation - I played the grooves off of Kansas "Power" when it first came out and convinced myself it was their brilliant return to form. But after a while I realized that was just me diluding myself, and it was really just a poor attempt at resuurecting their careers. I pretty much never listen to that one anymore.
Endless love - Concrete Blonde, "Bloodletting". It's not prog, but I've owned this album for over 15 years and I still listen to it all the time. It's definitely mood music.
And Godspeed You Black Emperor! "F#a# Infinity". Same reason.
