Topic: American Idiot ahead of Lamb?? Posted: April 21 2006 at 14:18 |
They claim it is a story of refugee from behind the iron curtain - and they do not include Stationary Traveller by Camel, which is more widely known - perhaps they wanted to honour Hackett for bringing back old Genesis.

Hey guys, what do you expect from a magazine that includes Kilroy Was Here (With the infamous Mister Robotto) in the top 50??????
This album is embarrasing even for STYX.
They ignore Quadrophenia and 666
They include Too Old to Rock & Roll To Young to Die, but ignores Thick as a Brick?

Yes I have, I enjoyed it much better than many albums that have come out recently it may even deserve a spot on the top 50 concept albums/rock operas because of the influence it has and hopefully making concept albums more mainstream. However, it is not #3 and doesn't deserve to be ahead of many prog concept albums IMO.

I must say that I am impressed that bands like Gong, Camel, and Gentle Giant are on the list.

I bet you in 3 years it probbably wont be on that list atleast not in the top 10 i dont see it having that much extreme staying power but hey maybe it could open the door for a new official genre prog punk ![](smileys/smiley4.gif)
the weirdest thing happened today my dad whos a fairly big prog fan admitted to liking Green Day but i told him the buzzcocks were bassically doing the same thing in the 70s

The funniest thing is that Stynx's Kilroy is Here actually made the list ![](smileys/smiley5.gif) .
Bravo that the Residents made the list though! (although I really could care less about lists...)

I myself am unswayed by the list, and the only thing that really bugged
me was that Tales from Topographic Oceans, Dark Side of the Moon, Thick
as a Brick and Be weren't there, though I am rather pleased that Olias
of Sunhillow was included.
Was this list one album per artist or something?

I don't think it's good that Green Day's "American Idiot" is 3rd (it's just absolutely ridicules.) BUT I do want to say that I think it's ridicules that everyone ridicules Green Day for writing a concept album. They have 2 9 minute songs on it so i hear, what's the big deal? They are at least opening the minds of a lot of closed minded music fans and letting them know that a concept album can exist and songs longer than 3 minutes with different movements can exist as well. I think what Green Day is doing is much better for the mainstream than releasing another "Dookie."
Why are we so against it? Just doesn't make sense to me. |
I agree this could open the minds of some conformist punk kids but i doubt it.
And does it actually bother you that much does it really even matter

It's just a stupid magazine put together by some monkey-brained writers- does it really matter what their list says? Although, I must say I don't agree with Green Day at #3 at all. Quite ridiculous.![](smileys/smiley17.gif)

And you expected... what? It sounds like you people are complaining for the sake of complaining. Sure, The Lamb is better than American Idiot but this is the way the press is and we've known that for years, so don't pretend to be angry. (And besides, at least they mentioned bands like Gentle Giant, Peter Hammill, and Gong at all)

I have heard parts of it, and it sounds the same as every other Greenday album: 4 or 6 power chords repeated over and over again with "rebellious" lyrics. Woah, you're anti-American--it takes true courage to restate what everyone else in the music industry already thinks. The same thing applies to The Rolling Stones; they've managed to appear rebellious all the time, when in fact they're always just going with the flow of the rest of Hollywood. Wow, an album about sex (Sticky Fingers) in the '70s--now that's original.
I didn't even know American Idiot was a concept album...

Green Day sucks.

My avatar is the vocalist of glam rock/brit pop band Suede (aka the London Suede in USA). They were once good before the guitarist left the band. Albums to hear: self titled debut and 'Dog Man Star.'
