You'd be surprised how many people don't find Close to the edge that much of a masterpiece.
I think the title track of CTTE is a masterpiece,i think somewhat less of the others especially Siberian Kathru (Tja,tja do da do da may be very progressive vocals but i find them annoying just the same, the bass riff in this tune is stunning though). I often listen only to the CTTE title track alone concluding i also think i enjoy Rock pommel's land somewhat more overall then CTTE overall.

Yes, I agree Rockpommel's Land was an Eroc moment of weekness, perhaps influenced by some producer's idea, and he painted some Yes colors to Grobschnitt... but in a way Eroc helped the band to create a masterpiece of symphonic progressive, by mixing some others influences to the Yes like subject the band created a fantastic album... about Jumbo... I could not find those influences... my listening is not so good at this point.. hehe

Hey Sean, tell Eroc I'm his fan..

It's true.

I think "L'Isola Di Niente" reveals some influences of Genesis.

I cannot find those kind of influences people mention a lot...
For example, I cannot find any Genesis influences on Grobschnitt or PFM... ELP influences on Banco del Mutuo Soccorso... even Rockpommel's Land has just some Yes like moments during its 45 minutes... Rockpommel's has symphonic influences, but also some kraut/comic/psichedelic moments...
It's more easy find Pink Floyd influences on Grobschnitt than another english band... also they were influenced by Hendrix, Zappa and psichedelic bands...

The german bands Grobschnitt, Eloy, Néktar, Mythos, Wallenstein, Pell Mell and more have few english influences and more Kraut influences... only Jane is Pink Floyd like... but it's my opinion...

recently had a conversation with Eroc which in sorts agree that Jumbo and RL were derivative

RL wears its Yes influences all the way down to the fake Roger Dean artwork.

And the debut album has some Santana influences >>> not least because of the double drumming attack

mine's coming up next week or something

However, I must say I am not a fan of Jumbo or Rockpommel Land because there Grobschnitt is simply too derivative of Yes and Genesis

YESS, It's my review... I like a lot the 2CD set... The 'Die Sinfonie' live version is just Fantastic... The second algum brings some nice Illegal songs mixed with classic ones...
For me it's hard to vote here... about studio albuns, every day I like more one than other...
I heard so much 'Rockpommel's Land' in the past, so after a while, yesterday I really liked to hear some songs on 'The International Story'... but... allthough Rockpommel's Land is one of my favorites album ever, I'm not anymore a bigger fan of symphonic rock, I'm now more fan of the 'Solar Music Live'...

LOL

I think of music connection between Grobschnitt and Yes (there is also connection related to cover of “Rockpommel’s Land” and works of Roger Dean). “Soon” is last part (for many people the most interesting part – I don’t think so) of “Gates Of Delirium”. “Soon” ought to be considered as calm, even silence after violent and mad previous part of that track when musicians of Yes fight (only on music field) one another. Silence after storm. That’s way “Soon” – in my opinion – is fantastic part of “Gates Of Delirium” (Moraz is fantastic, tooSmile).

I find mentioned music idea in title track – “Rockpommel’s Land”.

I have their first, Jumbo, Rockpommel's and Illegal.  I like Rockpommel's very much, Jumbo is very good, Illegal does not do much for me at all, and my favourite is their first.

But for those interestred, the brand new International Grobschnitt Story (recorded live with a 53 min version of Solar Music) is outstanding stuff and for once not filled with lengthy German monologue which us non-German do not understand

So if I could vote over the two I would go with Solar Music Live by a hair. The debut has some very powerful stuff too. >> this is why I voted for the debut! I know most people will choose another and leave this one without a voteBig smile

Ok, good. That would be my next purchase from the band Thumbs Up

Rockpommel's Land for me, although sometimes a bit too laidback.

Solar Music is for me one of the highlights in German progrock, incredible dynamic and original! My favorite studio album is Ballermann, I bought the 2-LP in the late Seventies and I still love it.

Rockpommel's Land, i feel, is just one of those albums where everything came together just right even though the silly concept could cause major problems, but it didn't and i think it is fantastic

Solar Music Live is easily the best live album i have ever heard

but i voted RL
