Or at least with the interview parts separate from the concert.

I agree Pixel, it should have been a pure concert DVD.

If you mean "Living With The Past", it's good, but it could have been excellent if it hadn't been for the annoying changes of venues all the time,it shifts constantly between various gigs during every song. And there are also interview bits that sometimes turn up in very innapropriate places, the bass solo on "Bourre" is interrupted by an interview bit for instance and something which is really unforgivable,at the beginning of "Aqualung",just as Martin Barre is cranking out the familiar riff, suddenly there's an interview part, then back to the song! It's criminal! What were they thinking?

Pretty good list Duke, specially for In the Flesh Live, a damn good DVD.

but :

9. Phil Collins - Finally...The First Farewell Tour

Is in no way progressive rock related, at least The Way We Walk seems to have a couple of progressive tracks.

My list, not necessarily the best in the world, but 10 DVD’s to start a good collection:

  1. Roger Waters- In the Flesh Live: Amazing, I'm not a Waters fan but this excellent DVD, closer to Pink Floyd than Gilmour's solo album or evensome Floyd albums.
  2. PFM - Live in Japan 2002: Why in hell the Japanese are so lucky to see such excellent concerts? Amazing, sound even better than their legendary tour to USA almost 30 years ago.
  3. Focus- Masters from the Vaults: Jan Akkerman and This Van Leer together playing Hamburger Concert? What else can you ask for?
  4. Kansas - Device Voice Drums: Great DVD, they sound excellent despite the troubles Walsh had with his through in those days.
  5. ELP - Live at Royal Albert Hall: Excellent chance to see an ELP concert without disturbing animations as in Pictures.
  6. Peter Gabriel - Secret World Tour: Much better than Growing Up, you can see Manu Katche, Tony Levin and Paula Cole instead of Peter's daughter, who is not bad but not in the level of Paula.
  7. Yes - Yes Live 1975 At QPR: Relayer tour with Patrick Moraz (Plays a killer solo), good historical document, the sound and image is pretty decent, starts with day light and ends in the night after almost 3 hours.
  8. Focus - Live in America: Thys is old and fat, the rest of the band are newbies, but sure they can play the old classics, sound and image are excellent.
  9. Iron Maiden - Live After Death: Not progressive, but they were really close, listen Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner and tell me if it's not a progressive rock track.
  10. Pink Floyd - Pulse: All the classic tracks and it's Pink Floyd for God's sake.

Depends who you're into...

Personally, I'd recommend DT's live at Budokan DVD, it's simply amazing

get the movie of the wall. its actually really good, the special features are immense, has a documentary on when roger spat on a fan at an animals tour gig, he says that act of atrocity pushed him into feeling alienated from the crowd, as if a wall was separating, thus sparking his idea. tonnes more features, tis immense

Not really Rob, but the "Yesyears" documentary DVD has some excellent archive footage.

Hackett's Tokyo Tapes is good for the line-up and music (Genesis/Krimson), but the musicians seem relatively static, giving me the impression it was recorded in the studio (but then a few heads in audience pop up occasionally to dispell those thoughts).

Joni Mitchell's Shadows & Light has a stellar jazz rock support cast - and one of a handful of DVDs with Jaco Pastorius - pity the film's director relies too much on grot footage of 70's Las Vegas, instead of letting us see the guys do their instrumental stuff.

Page & Plant: Unledded (I've been told the very best of surround sound) - stonking heavy Arabic rearrangement of Kasmir.

Rush's Rio is great and price looks very good from here.

And one suggestion to avoid lofi from TV speakers, maybe you have a stereo headphones plug-in point.

Are there any decent Yes dvds with footage from the 70s?

Unfortunately, John came fifth and was stuck with a toaster.

King Crimson- Deja Vrooom | Fantastic performance of the 'double trio'

King Crimson- Eyes Wide Open| Just Brilliant

Rush - Rush in Rio| Great songs, great footage          ;

Pink Floyd- Live in Pompei | One of the best music videos ever shot

Yes- Symphonic Live | A classic

Enjoy!

Well, the obvious one to go for first would be "Subterranea". Then I would recommend the one that Steve Hackett released a couple of years which title escapes me at the moment,"Live In South America" or something. Despite the fact that I can't remember what it's called,it's absolutely brilliant!

A couple of Pink Floyd ones to add, "Live in Pompaii", and "Classic albums, the making of Dark side of the moon".
