Totally Agree! Music like AC/DC isn't meant to be beautiful, it's meant to rock!

What about Deep Purple and Uriah Heep? | Ah, but they're not hard rock, Neil - after much argument, counter argument, debate and (no doubt) toys being thrown out of prams, it was decided these bands are "proto-prog" and "art-rock" respectively... Uriah Heep = Art Rock... never noticed that before. Mind you, now I think about it the Radiohead comparisons are obvious

I'd hardly call G'n'R an early hard rock band. Their first album was 1987, many years after Motorhead, Saxon,Iron Maiden, AC/DC, etc.etc. What about Deep Purple and Uriah Heep? I'd call them the early hard rock bands.

When people get lost in thought it's often because it's unfamiliar territory.

Period. | As far as a straight rock 'n' roll band are concerned, I agree; saw them a few times in the early 1980s (will always regret I never saw them with the great Bon Scott, though) & they always gave good value, a good time and a good show, tongue firmly in cheek. Also, if you can find a tighter rhythm section in rock than AC/DC's... well, you won't! Danananananana ANGUS! Danananananana ANGUS! Danananananana ANGUS! Quality, pure quality

Sweet Child O Mine is probably my favorite guitar solo of all time
ac/dc had a few good ones though, highway to hell is a fun song, and TnT was probably my favorite by them

Gotta admit that they are one of my guilty pleasures. I couldn't
stand them at one time but eventually their honesty won me over.
They've never tried to be anything other than what they are and they
are a pure rock and roll band that delivers the goods without
pretense. Any band that stands the test of time and is still
considered "cool" by people who weren't born when "Back in Black" first
came out gets my respect every time.

I like their guitar sound and blues influences, but they have some boring tunes too, and quite infantile themes. But I saw one of their recent live DVD shot for Germany I think, and it was good.

I last saw them in 1994 at Donington Park, where there were about 150,000 if my memory serves me correctly. It was the one they released a video and live album of, and, as on "If You Want Blood" and the Atlantic Sessions, the atmosphere is tangible - electric, you might say. They've done good stuff since 1982, of course - I like Who Made Who, Razor's Edgs and Ballbreaker, but Johnson's voice has been giving out over the years, and the sheer power of BIB and FTATRWSY are not there any more. I must say that BIB really surprised me at the time - if you've ever heard Geordie you'll understand why! Angus' riffs are more subtle these days - it's all good - but not "High Voltage". It doesn't matter though, as when they play live, everything gets 110%, and all the new stuff just serves to highlight how great the old stuff is - and never feels like filler.

If you don't like AC/DC, you don't like Rock. "Highway to Hell" and "Back in Black" kick more ass than an ass kicking machine in kickass street - and "Back in Black" does it twice over with ketchup. Mind you, I'm only half interested to hear their next album, coz they haven't really lit any fires since "For Those About To Rock".

The album Let there be Rock is one of the best hard rock albums around.
I remember buying it and playing it to my father, he even liked it

I've mostly been rather indifferent to them. 'Back In Black' is the only one I really like that much. I've often found it somewhat unfair that whilst Status Quo have been pilloried by critics for doing the same thing for years on every album, AC/DC are even more guilty of this. IMO, Quo's first few Vertigo albums were all different, whereas I've never had one AC/DC album that has any evolution. | I can't argue with that point, but they do deliver the goods. I think their lack of growth is why their popularity peaked with "Back in Black." They had a quick decline after that. However, nobody does the power chord rocker as well as they do.
