Another album I should have recommended Lystmaler
Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
Again not quite progmetal but it should be exactly what you are both looking for. The tracks Arriving Somewhere But Not Here and Start of Something Beautiful are top notch. PT main man Steve Wilson has produced the last couple of Opeth albums, so there is a definite affinity for metal even though PT are certainly not progmetal.

Thanks for the reply Lystmaler.
I forgot two band: King Crimson and Tool. The first only because fathers of the seconds. "Reaching The Golden Gate" (Dream Child) e "Who Dare Wins" (Dyslesia) are two Revival Classic Metal albums in Prog key! Edited by MANDRAKEROOT - January 22 2007 at 12:38 |

She's not much of a fan of the proto-prog metal, just select songs. I agree however regarding Pink Floyd, and they are by all means my personal favourite band, and thus I decided to mention them despite requesting prog-metal.
I appreciate your suggestions, however. I'm familiar with them all and personally, I love Uriah Heep and Deep Purple. I've been to a Deep Purple concert in Oslo myself, although the outcome was disappointing as the sound was way too loud for the location, the sounds just bounced back from the walls and I couldnt make heads and tales of the main picture of the music. I love the band tough. :) I've neve personallyr been a big one on Queensr˙che. I couldn't tell you why, I just think they lack some sort of 'texture.' :) Although I know they're one of the inventors of the genre they just don't click with me. I'll be sure to check out all your other suggestions, Mandrakeroot. More for myself then for my fiancée. Thank you. :) Bundy! I had completely forgotten about Star One. I love that band. They're awesome! My fiancée's overall favourite with Ayreon, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation and Pink Floyd. I'll make sure to try your suggestions out. Thank you. :) I'll also check out Kayo Dot and In the Woods... Thank you all for all your suggestions. :) I've got her some Pagan's Mind, which I'm certain she'll enjoy. I'll try to get trough everything. Thank you all for your suggestions. :) Edited by Lystmaler - January 21 2007 at 18:06 |

I would add also the Rainbow (Dio Era), the Rush, the Uriah Heep, the Kansas and the Deep Purple that is not Prog Metal but that invented this genre (can be defined Proto-Prog Metal?)
Besides advise also the usual: Savatage, Crymson Glory, Queensryche more the recents Dream Child and Dyslesia (Power Prog Metal bands from France that I want to advise for PA) Edited by MANDRAKEROOT - January 21 2007 at 16:41 |

How about some Arena? If she likes Ayreon, what about Arjen's Star One project. For something obscure try getting hold of Payne's Grey's Kadath Decoded. Amazing album!!
Finally seeing as your Norwegian, what about some White Willow. Not prog metal, but given your shared tastes I'm sure she'll love them.

Thank you all very much for all your suggestions. Many of you based your suggestion on my nation which isn't as bad of an idea considering the fact she's planing on moving here. I've also arranged some Italian Progressive, as it interests her. (I'm part Italian, you all see)
But I'll be sure to check out all the good suggestions you've all made. I need to arrange it tomorrow, so I'll just get what I can get. :) Thank you all. |

If she likes Ark, maybe she could be introduced to Conception as well?
If you want to be patriotic and show what our beautiful country has(had) to offer when it comes to prog metal, I think Conception would not be a bad choice. |

My wife and myself both love prog and metal (prog metal included) and she likes basically the same bands you've mentioned as well.
So I would highly recommend Subterranean Masquerade and their album Suspended Animation Dreams. |

Man what good taste your girlfriend has!!! This is to you:
Anyway, Threshold is a good idea, seeing what she likes, Pagan's Mind... but why don;t you follow the collaborators advice and get her some Kayo Dot? It would be new for her and maybe she will like it. But better yet, if you can find it (???), get her Eternity X's THE EDGE... a wonderful piece of prog witrh DT and Symphony X's elements.... Also you can try Ivory Tower, Vanden Plas, latter Symphony X (Twilight in Olympus I would say), but try also some NAbool or specially, some Green Carnation's LIGHT OF DAY.... a masterpiece. Show her some non-prog-metal (though for me it is) like AMORPHIS' TUONELA.... wonderful, wonderful. Edited by The T - January 18 2007 at 15:24 |

What about LUMSK? Their album "Troll" from 2005. I was pretty impressed with it. Progressive folk metal.
And maybe The 3rd & the Mortal's "Tears laid in earth". But I am no prog metal expert, to say the least...and maybe you know both already... http://www.lumsk.no http://www.lumsk.no/video/Trolltind.mov |

I've checked out a few song samples now, and I must say that I like what I hear! :)
I like Pagain's Mind, they've got style I think. :) I love your sugestions, Majestic_Mayhem. I know she'll love Stream of Passion, and I quite liked Lord of Mushrooms. :) Green Carnation sounds good! I'll try out everything else also. :) I'll be sure to check out Mindflow as soon as I'm home! I'll check out the rest as times comes. It's, as you probably guess, a bit hard here at my job to do anything but typing. :) Edited by Lystmaler - January 18 2007 at 07:37 |
