ACOS received 86% of the votes ... that doesn't mean that it's much, much better than First Light. It just means that 86& of all voters think that it's the better epic - we don't know "how much" better.

Hate to sound like bad sport but I`m not entirely pleased with the way this poll has turned out , not so much the result of the poll ... that's fine .. just the way we conduct our points of views they are always so black and white and focus on whats wrong hardly ever what is right , are all us Prog fans so pompous ? I hope not

yes but didn't I say that ACOS was MARGINALLY BETTER, thus implying
that I prefer it over FL??? I even voted for it. So i can't see how my
post was illogical. Anyway...enough with this...

Yes:
if the poll is "what do you think of X and Y?", then the answer "X and Y suck" is valid.
If the poll is "X vs Y", "X and Y suck" it's not part of any possible logical answer.
And every post but mine absolutely sucks...

I like First Light a lot, and the long period of silence doesn't annoy me too much ... it's the parts before/after the silence which are a little bit bland and unnecessarily drawn out too long. ACOS has a clear structure and concept from beginning to end, which makes it a much better epic.
But first 18 minutes of First Light are very, very good!

I love "First Light" but, as previously mentioned, any long periods of silence are unbelievably annoying. Why anyone would think a listener could find it anything but irksome is a constant mystery to me.

I made a best of Shadow Gallery CD using audacity , I cut out the end bit on First Light at about the 22 min mark ... When I listened to it back I came to realise what a gem of a prog metal song it is , so much so I consider it an even finer piece than "A change of seasons" For me First Light is of a higher consciousness than A change of seasons, it gave me some serious food for thought lyrically on a universal level (listen to its lyrics) , but that's just my opinion . So I put it to a poll .... knowing SG were gonna get creamed ... I advise listen to first light again .. in the dark ... alone ... no interruptions, if you don`t musically transcend from it you are not listening to it properly or your tastes are vastly different to mine which is weird since I love "A Change of seasons" as well

A Change Of Seasons but I like both.
I don't really understand why people get so upset about the silence in First Light. Although, technically its not silence, its people talking followed by knocking and doorbells and then a mediocre neo classical piece.
I admit I don't care for this part but I usually just end the album there or fast forward to the classical peice at the end, its not a big deal.
