It'd be a good idea, but it would also be a data server's nightmare. Thankfully, there are plenty of sites that let you catalog your record collection. http://rateyourmusic.com/ is a rather good one. It even gives you a neat little map that illustrates where your artists hail from. PS: I haven't played Magic in years, but I do own a Time Spiral and a Tolarian Academy |

Given that some of us have thousands of albums, I'll vote for crazy.
The idea of even typing out every album I own, even if I could organize them in some fashion to do so, is mindboggling.
If you have like, 12 albums, I guess its a great idea.

Great Tull cd's you have my friend! Beware of A Passion Play, many people have been disgust and others like me have loved it. I recomend you if you liked Stand Up to get This Was, less progheaded but with some great bluesy stuff. You should also try Benefit, strange you don't have it. If you want something new from them check definitly Roots to Branches. |

Alrighty, first off, thanks to everyone who went out of their way to post.
Second, I have written down everything listed for future refference.
Third, these are the bands im going to look out for first; Comus, SGM, Mr.Bungle, Caravan, The Soft Machine, Return To Forever, Weather Report, Spirogyra, and maybe some Magma. I currently have a list of 59 artists ill be looking for, but those are the top ones.
Fourth, I stoped buying Magic Cards at the end of the Time Spiral Block, so Future Site. But I still play when I can get someone interested.
Fifth, the Tull I own is Aqualung, Crest Of The Knave, Living In The Past, Minstrel In The Gallery, Songs From The Wood, Stand Up, Thick As A Brick, and Warchild. Im hoping to get Heavy Horses and A Passion Play...and eventually their discography.
Heh, anyone else thing their should be a section on their member profile where they can list their album collection? Or am I just crazy? Edited by Prof. - April 20 2008 at 21:13 |

First off, welcome to the boards!
Second, regarding fusion... once you've listened to Romantic Warrior a few dozen times, be sure to try Iceberg's Coses Nostres. You won't be disappointed! |

Welcome!! Nice tastes..
Try out for jazz rock, surely you will like Billy Cobham's Spectrum. If you liked Tommy Bolin playing in Deep Purple this will be a delite. I also recomend Romantic Warrior from RTF plus some Pat Metheny can't go wrong. Prog On!! PS: What you got from J-Tull? |

Hi Prof, neato choice of bands. =) SGM and Comus can open a lot of doors.
oh, hmm, and I used to play Magic but the new sets scare me away with their overpowered creatures and increasingly undercommunicative templates... *cringes from WotC* |

And make sure to check out:
Weather Report - Black Market, Heavy Weather...
Soft Machine - Third, Fourth, Fifth, Six, Seven
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew, Miles in the Sky... (Almost any of his 67-85 albums will do it!)
Gnidrolog - Lady Lake
Camel - Camel, Mirage, The Snow Goose, Moonmadness...
Jethro Tull - This Was, Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung... And the rest of their discograhpy...
There's simply too much good stuff out there. Make sure you have a steady income so you don't go broke!

Check out any of their three albums, they're all excellent. Disco Volante is the most experimental and crazy, but If you liked the sample from it you should dig it!
In addition to the already suggested Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever, check out:
Ain Soph - Story of Mysterious Forest
Bill Bruford - One of a Kind
Brand X - Unorthodox Behaviour
Kenso - Yume No Oka

Normally, on noob welcome pages all I say is "Magma, that is all.", but you seem like you might enjoy some avant-garde/RIO. Try out some modern avant bands like Mr. Bungle. You already like SGM, so that's a good sign. Once you get into that, explore some older stuff, the RIO scene, Henry Cow, Univers Zero, whatever looks good to you.
edit; ah, I see you already enjoy Mr. Bungle. Then I can almost guarantee you will enjoy the avant/RIO subgenre, and probably - eventually - the Zeuhl genre as well. Go read some reviews for some of the popular albums, write down a couple CD names, and keep an eye out for 'em. www.waysidemusic.com and www.amazon.com both sell a lot of them. And, of course, Magma. Well I tend to err more on the guitar side of things. If that's your thing as well, you can't go wrong with Allan Holdworth. That man is a sheer genius and one of the greatest virtuosos on the electric guitar.
For a more metal take on Fusion, try out Planet X and Liquid Tension Experiment.

Yeah, I was browsing through each section checking out what the top rated stuff had to offer and I liked the Canterbury Sceen stuff. Ill be looking for something in that genre next time I CD shop.
And I just streamed some Mr. Bungle and its pretty good on the first listen, ill have to see if we have any round here.
Oh and can anyone give me a good Jazz Rock/Fusion artist to start on?
