I actually just started getting into these guys about a week back, truthfully, despite all the hype and reputation throughout the years. Merriweather was such a huge album - almost one of those albums that has a cult status and following now i.e. In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, Spiderland, etc. People can thank /mu/ for that. Cool And speaking of /mu/, that's where I got the motivation to give myself a kick and listen to these guys. All I can say, is that they've quickly become one of my favourite bands off all time. I'm still working on about half of their discography, but Merriweather, Centipede, Strawberry Jam, Feels, we're all jaw droppers. Big smile I've never heard music so colourful, vibrant, hallucinogenic, playful and sonically inducing before. I mean, I'm just in absolute shock I hadn't checked these guys out prior. Really great band. Hope to see them live this March in Toronto - I just need a couple of friends that can put up with 2 hours of madness. Wink

They're completely awesome.  So far, my favorite is Feels.

A new EP (Fall Be Kind) is about to be released, first in digital form on November 23 and next month as a CD. Of  course, it's already out there in cyber space as a leak but I for one have not heard anything of it yet. I will get the EP as soon as it's out, though! It's been well received on the various forums I visit... Apparently it's not nearly as "poppy" as MPP which sits well with many of the older hard core fans. Me, I still adore MPP in all its splendor.

For some weird reason I still don't have Sung Tongs. Need to rectify this situation soon!...

been a while since i posted.

MPP has tapered off somewhat, plateued so to speak and while i still love it to pieces, it doesnt pack the whollap it used to.
that said strawberry jam is now tied with feels for my favorite. Ive fallen in love with the meandering soundscapes and drifting psychadelic sounds they build up and unravel - especially on feels but im appreciative of their inclusion on strawberry jam and miss them on MPP (part of the reason i love daily rutine and no more running so much)
ive also had the chance to listen to their eps and water curses kicks ass. People is great too and the song off their peacebone single too.

new list. - (song list is next to impossible)

Feels - 9.9
strawberry jam - 9.9
MPP - 9.8
Person Pitch - 9.8
Sun tongs - 9.2
Spirit they're gone... - 8.3
here comes the indian - 7.0

Strawberry Jam is either number 1, 2, or 3 all-time for me, it's pretty much perfect. Besides that, Feels is pretty good, but doesn't really have the same impact as SJ. Sung Tongs is a really nice album, but Visiting Friends and The Softest Voice are somewhat boring to me. As for Merriweather, it's a great album, but I never listen to it, ever. However, Animal Collective is still ranked as my third favorite band ever, and I stand by that (for now, at least).

Good to hear another fan is in the making Wink I got Feels two weeks ago and just today it finally clicked with a vengeance - took around seven listens to do so, which I'm discovering is not at all unusual in my case when it comes to this band... I hope this means their records will have staying power in my stereo!

You really need to get their latest, the record that inspired this thread in the first place: Merriweather Post Pavilion. Ear candy at its finest. (After months of listening to it, "Also Frightened" is probably my fave atm.)

Having said that, Strawberry Jam, released in 2007, is also really good! Definitely plenty of rhythmic goodness in that bunch of songs, among them the sublime "For Reverend Green".

Oh, and Panda Bear's Person Pitch, as somebody already mentioned, is heavenly, just...I have no words for it. I'm glad I finally got that one too last week. Anybody into AC needs this record in their collection!

This band has been my major discovery this year, no doubt Heart

I bought Feels today, I thought it was really awesome. I really love the album on the whole, and I think I'm going to buy another one. Can anyone help me out? I liked the album altogether but i preferred their more "rhythmic" songs like Grass or Did You See The Words.< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall;" id="jsProxy" ="">

I love Animal Collective, with Campfire Songs being my favourite album.  But even better in my opinion is Panda Bear's album Person Pitch.

I think I like the production on MPP more than the album itself.

Just picked up Strawberry Jam from the local library and got Merriweather on a hold. I am liking what I am hearing from Strawberry.

Hey someone else loves it as much as I do! It's so wonderful, and then Bluish comes on and takes over my soul.

That's my favorite song of 2009. From my favorite album of 2009, no less.
