Great band, one of my faves. The new album kicks ass too.

If you're looking for offensive Mogwai Mike, get Young Team, very different from Happy songs, and one of the greatest bass albums I own. Play it really loud too!
I'm pretty upsest right now, Mr. Beast has been my album of choice to sleep to for the last month or so.

never was big on mogwai even as a post rock fan. the earlier comment of "inoffensive" is pretty spot on. its pretty and happy songs is certainly very enjoyable but nothing close to a masterpiece. its just... nice.

Personally, I think Happy Songs is my favorite, with Mr. Beast behind. CoDY was rather lacking and Young Team was quite good. I need to get The Hawk is Howling, I've heard some good things and played a song on my radio show that was very good.

Well, Acid Food is off of "Mr. Beast", which is the first album by them I ever listened to. If you liked that track, it's a good bet that you will enjoy the whole album. So "Mr. Beast" is my recommendation.

I remember years ago I had a song called Acid Flood by Mogwai. I played the hell out of that song and thought it was incredible, I haven't heard the name since. Recomendations?

^ Wow, those would just about be my ratings precisely.
I predict that you'll be enjoying The Hawk is Howling about 3 and half stars worth. :D

As unbelievable as that may sound, I have all but one Mogwai album (Rock team)
The band is without a doubt my favorite post-rock band (with God is an Astronaut). I ike the fact that their pieces are short and therefore don't fall in the over-repetition and noodling problems of many other post-rock acts....
Come on Die Young
The Hawk is Howling (bought, but not yet heard )

What video are you talking about? Can you get a link?

To Ansen: Mogwai isn't always relaxing. Check out "Glasgow Mega Snake" for some pretty heavy in-your-face stuff, just a single example. |
ok then . I only have Happy Songs and Mr. Beast to judge so....

Glasgow Mega-Snake is a song I wish I'd written. I found Mogwai when Mr
Beast came out; I was at a record store and the shopkeeper put some
record on, I listened to the three first tracks, asked what it was and
took Mr Beast home with me. I was so excited about it that soon I'd
bought the rest of their catalogue, but it has turned out that apart
from Happy Songs to some extent I'm not too fond of their output in
general. They make wonderful background music for reading though, but I
don't get much kick out of really listening to them. But Beast is still
great.

IŽm slowly getting into Mogwai. DidnŽt care much for the two first albums but Rock Action and Happy Songs really click with me and IŽll definitely check out the rest of their discography when I get the time.

It's wonderful relaxing background music when I can't take anything else but it's a little too inoffensive to be among my post rock favorites.

Same here. It feels like the appropriate next step in the bands progression after "HSFHP" imo.

| Thats how I feel toward them too. I actually find Mogwai harder to get into than most other Post Rock bands, for reasons I have no idea. And Yes, "Hunted by a Freak" is friggin sweet!

I've been a fan of these guys for a few years now, since my sister turned me onto them before she moved out of home 3 years ago. Hell, at the time I didn't even realize that this music was called post rock, I just knew I liked it.
