Topic: Flower Kings Favorite Song - Part 1 Posted: March 07 2009 at 13:05 |
One bump, I'll probably tabulate the nominations this weekend if there are any last minute nominations.

Great idea Tom !
I could nominate about 50, but I'll keep the list short:-
Stardust We Are
I Am The Sun
The Merrygoround
Retropolis
Monsters And Men
Black And White
Back In The World Of Adventures
Take a look at the post by progrules on the FK appreciation thread!!!!!

Very good, Roger. If you wouldn't have said it, I would ! By the way, have you seen the post of the illusive Zitro, he's awake too !!!!!!!!!!!!!! At last, the party is complete.
By the way, In my top 50 list I forgot to mention Three Stories. Anybody knows this great song ?

I can see that, they did 'The Truth' last year at 3RP and I'm sad to say that I barely knew the song at the time. I like it now, but of the two, I strongly prefer 'The Devil's Playground'. The ending has some of the best fretless work that I've heard in a long time and the vocals are fantastic.

It took me a while to get into this track because initially TTWSYF kind of over-shadows it on UTF. However, I was lucky enough to see them in London open the show with "Devil's Playground" and it completely blew me away. From that gig on, I absolutely loved this track

Ok, I'll let the nominations go on for another day or two. With that being said, I'm adding one more to my list of nominations.
The Devil's Playground
I'm still getting to know "Flower Power", "Back in the World", "Unfold the Future" and "The Flower King" as they were my most recent acquisitions. I'm willing to put The Devil's Playground up there as a nomination.

I know that's a little off-topic but I wanted to have some indications about which TFK album should I buy now. I do have Sum of No Evil, Paradox Hotel and Adam & Eve.
Tks a lot!

Yes it is Marlon, welcome aboard! I recomend you, being a big fan of Adam & Eve, to go with the The Flower King by Roine Stolt, or Space Revolver by TFK. When you get one of those, just go forward or backwards, they're all awesome!

You're welcome Marlon, My musical recommendation as to where to go next would be Space Revolver if for no other reason than to own 'I Am the Sun'. With that being said, I only discovered the Flower Kings two years ago and left the order of my acquisitions up to fate. I started by trolling the used CD stores in my area and picking up what I could find there. I set a limit for myself that I wasn't going to pay more than $10 per disc ($20 for a double disc). Once I exhausted that resource, I started ordering through Amazon, not directly from Amazon but from the 'used and new' option. At that point I upped my limit to $12 per disc to compensate for shipping. Over the course of the last two years, I've gotten them all with 'Unfold the Future' arriving as a Christmas present. They're all good if you ask me. Incidentally, Right now there's a copy of 'Stardust We Are' on Amazon for under ten dollars. That is a great place to start. Enjoy, Roland

How do you find that one? Which of the 3 you have is your favourite?

Adam & Eve is a great album, the music is so beautiful and, at the same time, complex (as prog should be). It's a little bit different than the others, the atmosphere seems a little bit darker in some of the songs but, as I said, it's really good! I'm kind of in love with the three albums and right now it's difficult to say which one is the best, but in the last couple of days I've been spinning Paradox Hotel a lot!

Hi Marlon. I would go for Stardust We Are and Space Revolver, as they are my 2 favourites. The debut album is also great as is Unfold The Future. SWA, SR and the debut were very immediate for me, I loved them on first hearing. UTF is a tougher listen at first, but it is well worth dedicating plenty of time to it and once you get it (took me 4 or 5 listens) it is awesome. To be honest you can't go wrong with any!! Incidentally, you have one of the 2 I don't have yet, Adam and Eve. How do you find that one? Which of the 3 you have is your favourite?

Splitting I Am The Sun into two parts really makes my decisions difficult when it comes to polls like this.
I guess I have to vote for it, but I must admit that World of Adventures nearly beat it out.

It was hard enough to narrow it down this far. I don't think I can go any further.
Also, congrats Marlon for discovering the greatness that is TFK!
