Thank you. I completely agree with what you say. The biggest problem with any form of art is that attitude of superiority and elitism that can be devolped and spouted, appreciating art in any form is better than ignoring it.

Are you surprised? South Park has been on a vast downhill fall for years.

I'm really not surprised that KC is on Guitar Hero. I mean, Tool have about the same attitudes with their music distribution. When they got on GHWT I was frankly really surprised. Now that they've gotten in, I figure there must be something really appealing with the game contract.
In any event, now that I've been trying to get my friends into King Crimson for the past 2 years they'll finally listen to that one song...

Syncs up nicely with the ITCOTCK remaster.

I have mixed feelings about guitar hero, its a pretty fun game. When I heard Dream Theater would be on gh4, I was pretty happy, even if their song would be pull me under, which isn't exactly a favorite of mine. I was a bit worried they would end up like Dragonforce, with all the wanna-be guitar players going on about how Herman Lee is the best guitar player ever to walk the earth, even though these same people only own one or two of the band's songs. Even though this probably won't happen to kc, it's still something I can't help but think about.

Heck, I might just think about getting GH just for this. Or use my friends. With as many covers that are on YouTube of 21c.SM, its not too surprising. It will be good for the wallets. Besides. If you have listened to the song recently you might come to think that it is remarkably relevant after 40 years. And, especially for those tween, teen, and Tool-age people, it might open their eyes (Dream Theater is "slightly" more accessible than most Crimson...)

When I got dragged into a conversation about music (which I try to avoid like the plague) with one of my good friends I mentioned King Crimson. He said he liked the song ITCOTCK from "Children of Men." I was ecstatic at the news and tried to turn him onto prog. He liked a good deal of the rest of ITCoTCK and Lizard. He wasn't a fan of the few other albums I threw his way, but I didn't care. I am always happy when more people (at least my friends) like even the smallest amount of prog. |

I'd say the Guitar Hero franchise is one of the most pathetic and disgusting excuses for entertainment in today's gen. Playing that song in a desire to gain points on a video game is not how anyone should listen to prog; or appreciate such beautiful art for that matter.

All i gotta contribute is: If anything KC deserves to be in the game, Fripp is a guitar hero, and i don't see how it sullies the name of KC at all. KC allowed their music to be featured in that movie "Children of Men", so who knows what's next regarding the commercial use of their music.
Agreed. Edited by Dominic - July 03 2009 at 02:52 |

Eh, King Crimson is really not obscure at all... How could they do Mellotron Hero? Like Guitar Hero but with 26 buttons??? |

I wish we could petition a version of Guitar Hero that exclusively featured prog. Maybe it could be subtitled "Mellotron Hero", "They Dressed Funny", or "Wow, Some of your Dad's Collection is Really Cool" |

A similar experience has already happened to me with Rush. My brother would endlessly play "Tom Sawyer" but when he wanted to borrow Moving Pictures I made him listen to the whole album, he payed attention to "YYZ" but that's about it. I just hate the feeling that people are just jumping on the bandwagon without actually listening to or liking the music. I really hope the new Guitar Hero brings a lot more people into prog, although like Moving Pictures it has some songs that would be a bit harsh as an introduction to prog, i.e. everything after the first two minutes of Moonchild. Coincidentally, I left my mp3 player on the table the other day and my sister picked it up, and since I had been listening to KC, it went to them automatically when you select "artist", and after that she clicked play all and actually enjoyed the "pretty music", such as Walking on Air and some songs on ITCOTCK. |

I don't see how there's anything to "forgive". It's not like letting them use it in a car commercial, Guitar Hero is about the music, just in a different form.

Deep down inside me I feel the same way, but I manage to suppress those thoughts (and refrain from asking those questions). I guess its because us Proggers don't want "normal people" to really enjoy what we do, we just want them to try and enjoy it... and when they can't, we rave about it on here (that would be ProgArchives.com) |

I am now hoping that since guitar hero got the right, RB will release some KC as DLC soon and hopefully include some other KC songs in a pack or even a prog pack!

Well, if we can forgive anyone I guess it would be good ol Bobby. Besides, I'm torn. I always do hate when bands like this get on and 9015105391 people will say, "Oh yea King Crimson is awesome!" Then after you ask them to name a song other than the one on GH they sit blankly......on the other hand at least people will be exposed to it. I did find several bands I ended up liking through GH..... |
