Going through Jaga's older stuff... shows how much work must have been put into One Armed Bandit. It's really a huge step forward and I think is up there with T. Driver's work as progression, fusion and innovation in the 21st century.

Its weird because apparently Lars Horntveth, the main writier in the band, isnt really inspired by Zappa at all, yet Jaga have a strong resemblance to Zappa- Hot Rats era... I think it is Jaga's original jazz background that strikes this zappa resemblance to many, including myself

As you can tell by my profile picture, this album is outstanding.. very very good modern prog music, complex arrangements and sturdy song writing. Lars Horntveth is a very prolific guy, i admire his move from jazz/drum'n'bass stuff to a more progressive/rockier sound, yet still retaining the jazz elements. Why does Scandinavia produce such amazing music?

I wish they release a live album soon. They sound much more daring on stage that in studio.

The one I like the most is the previous album, even though it has the "lowest" rating:

You got it in one! That programme has cost me a fortune. MDK as the featured album last year is responsible for my current Magma obsession. |

This is a wee bit off-topic, but would that have been on Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone, by any chance? I heard those same tracks on that show, which is what made me decide to give it a whirl on Spotify. I love Freak Zone. |

Really loving this album.
I heard the title track and Toccata on the radio and bought it on the strength of that. Otherwise, I had never heard of them but am now keen to explore their back catalogue. Any recommendations as to what to try next? |

Only heard it once. So far, didn't sound like no "masterpiece", but it is certainly very interesting. I'll be sure to give it a couple more spins.

Eh, I wasn't too impressed by the Myspace tracks. I guess I'm too bitter. :(

You can hear influences from afro-beat and yes on the title track. Another band I discovered recently blends rock, electro and african soukouss : vampire weekend. |
