Being myself a former Navy Reserve lieutenant (engineer) and my daughter herself an Air Force captain (logistics) I can say that a Navy isn't only composed of navigators and that an Air Force isn't only composed of pilots - these branches need doctors, nurses, infantry people, quartermasters, specialists in general and etc.
We have here in PA our share of pilots and navigators, the "Prog-Reviewers" and our share of specialists, the "Collabs" and "Special Collabs" being that some of them were originally frontline people - just like we see in the armed forces. That's the way we work!

Good questions - I hope I can't shed some light. I did write a few bios, though nothing that can really compare to Ian's. Those are magnificent (the reviews also). I suspect there won't be much writing coming from me in the future either, I seem to have a huge writer's block for English. I am a somewhat accomplished writer in my native language, that includes publishing some articles in national magazines. Quite proud of them. The collaborator title is not a "fancy title", it only means (some) "work". Nothing fancy in it - just finding hours to be alone and listen to music that I normally wouldn't want to listen to. It's not really pleasant (sometimes it can be) but contributing to PA does provide satisfaction, so I find it a very good deal. The "title" hasn't changed anything - there were a lot encouraging slaps on the back at the beginning, provided access to the Collab Zone (interesting to see how PA works) and that's quite it. It hasn't changed anything really (like climbing up a hierarchy should do). I suppose the free booze and hot women are to be found in the Special Collabs Zone, leaving normal Collabs only the debates on band submissions ![]() ![]() Speaking of hierarchy, PA is not really like the army. Here you can't give those "fancy titles" which actually mean unpaid work to those who you think deserve it, but only to those who actually want it. ![]() ![]() Edited by harmonium.ro - March 25 2010 at 20:59 |

Yep, but there's difference that we all have titles, but each of us different ones. He's like from Intelligence department (Site Monitor), not fighting (reviewing), but he knows a lot, he just can't, or don't want to fight (write). I know Ian what you mean and honestly, in real life, there are these people for sure. But he's not one of them. Believe me, I'm working with him on addition of new bands (as with few others, you know guys) and he's really helpful, so believe me, he's not careerist. |

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

This is something that I've always wondered about. How can someone who has never written a review or band bio get a fancy title?
Well when I was in the air force you had guys who would qualify as a pilot or navigator and then just spend the rest of their careers climbing the ladder without flying or doing anything. I came across guys with over 10,000 hours in their logbooks with the rank of captain and then you've got all these colonels strutting around who hadn't even been near an airplane for most of their careers . Maybe it's just me but I just don't get it. I guess it's the same everywhere you go in life. |

Hmm - interesting...
When we promote someone to Collab status we (as Admins) do two things - first we change the "star" ranking on their profile page (http://www.progarchives.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=20797) and then we add them to the Collaborator list on the PA Admin Page (the same Admin page that Collabs have access to when adding and editting bands, albums, videos etc. - but with a couple more Admin-related options). When Tony added Alex to this list since Alex's profile updated his rank and he can access the CZ, so that suggests everything worked as it should...
... the Zero-review is a strong possibility of why he is not showing on the Collab list - what I cannot tell is how many other Collabs with zero reviews are also missing from the list since all those that do show have at least 1 review.
Curious. I suggest he rates a Harmonium album and see what happens.

Hello, progressive mates!
Two days before harmonium.ro has been promoted to our New Site Monitor. ![]() However, he has NEVER been on Collab List yet somehow ... ![]() (Actually it's very strange because every Collaborator should be added on the list automatically ... ![]() Okay I consider as follows: Look at his Collaborator Page, and this can notify us that he has NEVER posted any review or rating. ![]() I'm afraid this Collab List Page on Progarchives may assume that every Collaborator should have posted some reviews/ratings. ![]() And my suggestion (with some jokin' ![]()
Mates, any thoughts? And harmonium.ro ... what will you do next? ![]() Edited by DamoXt7942 - March 19 2010 at 06:47 |
