The last incidence of progress within hip-hop occurred in 1989 with Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys. Creating such a record today is impossible.

Couple of live performances by new seven piece hip-hop group Fresh Cut Collective that pretty much fuse everything together. They're from Wisconsin of all places. Here's a couple of live performances, sound pretty damn great.

Everyone knows rock attained perfection in 1974, it's a scientific fact.

Madlib, he uses anything from jazz, prog rock, brazillian psych, hip hop into his work. I would call his type of hip hop progressive. The west coast underground hip hop duo Blackalicous are considered progressive hip hop by many. |

I'm new in the forum (well actually i was here some years ago but i can't recall my previous username, so i just had to register again). I re-entered the forum because of a topic regarding the possibility of mixing rap and prog music, or something like that, which i accidentally came upon while searching for something else on google.
Anyways, i wanted to comment on that topic, but it's been closed for some time apparently. There IS existing progressive/experimental hip-hop, trip-hop and rap related music (i don't really care for music tags, but it does mix up elements of all of those genres). I particularly know of Massive Attack, Dj Shadow, Tricky and Dalek, to name a few. It'd be cool to hear of some other interesting artists of that sort. If you don't know what i'm talking about, please check out Tricky's "Pre-millenium tension", amazing stuff. Edited by Chigurh - December 12 2010 at 22:52 |
