Neither of these bands are on prog archives (a crying shame) but I'd say check out Von Lmo (Future Language) and Chrome (Half-Machine Lip Moves and Red Exposure). Von Lmo is classified as no-wave, but it's wonderful chuggish space/rock/punk with squealing saxophone all over it...succulent. Chrome is Chrome, can't say much more but DEFINITELY check them out.

Going back in time a bit, you might like Captain Beyond:

What about Nothingface-era Voivod? They started out as an eccentric speed/thrash metal group with a distinctive futuristic conceptual theme but had by then become their own unique genre drawing equally on the more artistic side of punk, 1980s indie and progressive rock.

Ok buddy check out Radio Moscow, an american band which is the brainchild of Parker Griggs who plays all the instruments. He must have overdosed on Hendrix and all the 70's giants because he delivers some killer freak out hard rock guitars with that psychedelic overtone.

You can also try Earthless, it's heavy guitar based and the songs are usually long psychedelic jams with prominent guitars.

And last is Psicomagia, guitars are not the main instrument here but you might like this cool jam.

Just thought I'd bump this thread with the news that Crow (mentioned in the OP) are now on BandCamp. The 2nd album "The Tides of Apsaroke" has been remastered and a limited run of CDs is planned very soon. The first album "Medicine Wheel" will receive the same treatment in the near future.

A bit late on this but you should check out Chrome, a band from San Francisco who formed in the mid seventies. Check out Alien Soundtracks and Half Machine Lip Moves.

Thanks for these recs. Gnomonaut were pretty cool, a bit excessively complicated for my liking, but I'll check them out a bit closer later.

Someone recommended Samsara Blues Experiment earlier; too messy and stoner-orientated for me, sorry! I'm not really looking for stoner/jam band stuff.

Will look into Verspero later tonight.

I rediscovered this band (Iowaska) today; this is another awesome and perfect example of what I'm looking for:

You should definitely try the Russian band Vespero´s new record from 2010. Without a doubt the best psychedelic album I´ve heard in many many years. If you´re into Jamie Muir´s spastic contributions to Lark´s tongue in Aspic - try imagining him behind a drumkit. He is brilliant! I couldn´t find anything on youtube, but you can stream some of the new tracks on their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/vesperohere

Have you tried Samasara Blues Experiment? Their most recent album, Long Distance Trip is quite the space rock record and has great guitar on it.

Yes, they were cool in a more mellow, spacey way. Certainly very interesting. Cheers!
