I love reading these lists. mechanicalflattery has exactly the kind of mix of stuff that I don't know and that I love that should make me explore lots of stuff on there; I don't know the number one, for god's sake, and then at number two something that doesn't feature on many lists but is supercool (or rather hot). This is how a list should start! Actually I can hardly imagine a list with .O.rang on it that isn't great. Great list from Larkstongue41, too, although I know far more of that one. I can't identify that much with hotties4jesus's list but seeing Joy Division on no. 2 warms my heart (despite that fact that they wouldn't feature that high on my own).

Yeah, the list starts on the first page under "Here we go". And all I was asking was why Red was at #80 for the author of this thread. His opinion and not yours - that kind of thing. By the way, your tacked on opinion of Red just goes to show that I care for it less than you care for my original question. As for Mickey's, well, someone get him a ladder.

Either way, why bother micromanaging somebody's personal favorites? For anybody who's listened to a great deal of music, even #80 entails a lot of praise. There are albums I greatly enjoy that wouldn't make my top 200 (incidentally, Red wouldn't make my top 500).

A fine list, loaded with familiar classics, albums I can't believe I haven't gotten around to yet (STILL no Arco Iris or Taj Mahal Travellers?!), and, as with any proper list, baffling choices I don't understand at all (this is a genuine compliment, lists are by their very nature nebulous and infuriating). I implore you to keep investigating post-rock, since you certainly seem to have an ear for it. If you haven't heard any Tortoise, Labradford, Dirty Three, or .O.Rang (although you likely have) you're in for a treat. Also there's Storm & Stress, which is basically a free improv side-group of Don Caballero. Either way, killer list, great top three.

  ^ Wow, what a list. Always interesting to delve into obscure artists. Most of these i never heard of but based on my appreciation of the first two listed albums upon first listening, I feel like I'm gonna discover some great things thanks to you. 

As for my own list, man this is a tougher exercise than I expected. I can hardly work through a top 10 without driving myself mad. It's still on my mind though and I'll try to come up with something soon enough.
