I think that this album is simply the best of the year, and maybe also the best in the last 7-8 years, it is a challenge between this one and Haken's two albums. I love the relaxed mood of the songs (especially Past Gravity, which is surely my favourite), but the thing that I love more is that even having a great technique, Echolyn never delivers useless solos to make the listener understand that they are great musicians, you can understand it only by listening to the great arrangements and to the fantastic alchemy they can recreate together.
Unfortunately I don't have anything else by them, which other are their best albums? |

This album came in today, but I can't yet say when I'll be able to get around to it. Probably this weekend, there's too much music I still have to listen to.

Still won't vote yet, but it's looking like it might be "When Sunday Spills." I can never rip that one out of my head (but that's true for much of this thing).

1.
Fill my eyes with your yesterdays and beyond.
2. Next time I go, make room for her. 3. This town won’t let me forget. 4. Take a hand full of seeds and a mouth full of dirt. Lie down and become a garden. 5. Love will make you wait to be found. It carries you home. 6. Don’t give another day to this. 7. Everything comes around at once again. There’s something she wanted to say. 8. I always hitch my name to the wrong star. But I prefer stars once they’ve fallen. |

Voted for When Sunday Spills, my favorite currently for having emotional effect of lampblack and the melodies and songwriting of Island. Also those clips at the beginning and especially the end are absolutely chilling.

This is such a beautiful record. So much going on, yet the melodies stick in your head.
I voted Lampblack. It moves me like no other. That will change. Did I mention how great this album is? |

This album is much more laid back than The End Is Beautiful--I wonder if it reflects their maturing over the intervening seven years. The slower tempos are much more prominent on this one.
But my favorite track is Island. I love the melodic part at 13 minutes. And this lyric: To me you are an island; a line where the sky meets the sea.
I think about the sea as a symbol of chaos, the sky as heaven--and the island as the meeting point between the two. Nice! |

Two lines keep resonating with me:
One is Ray's hopeful negativity: "Don't give another day to this." And another is Bret's hopeless positivity. "Love will make you wait till you're found; it carries you home." Edited by Epignosis - July 16 2012 at 22:42 |

I'd say Some Memorial, I've had the line "Take a headful of seeds/ and a mouthful of dirt/ lie down/ become a garden" playing in my head for weeks now It's such a great song in many ways. Island, Speaking In Lampblack and Headright are very very good as well. Strangely the other songs don't hit me nearly as well as those, so I gave it 4 stars.

A very pleasing album. The ending to "Island" is perhaps the best thing they ever did, it's a shame it fades out too early.
Island, Past Gravity and Some Memorial are my favorite for now, but I should listen to it some more.

Just in case you're curious, you can go here, mouse over the song title, and the link for the lyrics will appear. But I get your frustration. |

Will have to listen to it at least one more time before I can make up my mind. Perhaps I'll do it later today. Anyways, I'll be back.
