yes indeed, another fine review Steve 
The album can be had dirt cheap, and it is also on spotify 
Re Dreammaker, to me it's just a very strong composition and I happen to also love the version on "The Other Woman" and the way it is reprised on the excellent "Somewhere west of year" that closes the album |

i do love RENAISSANCE mostly because their songs were so relaxing to me after my proggy freakouts when as a little boy i was listening to the albums like "Red" or "Godbluff".

But I am reluctant to buy the album since almost everyone agrees it's the worst Ren 'album' and I already have You on my digital copy of Albert Hall. But everybody seems to say Dream Maker is the best of all the three versions of that tune.

I had a brief review of Songs From Renaissance Days 'in my pocket' so I thought I'd throw that one out as well. Sorry, but there's no more up my sleeve. I'm happy to see the band get so much positive support lately and truth be told, we're all not getting any younger, so it's great see the group continue to tour and the recent concert turnout. I hope fans will be proud to say "Renaissance? Yep, I saw them live."

Doesn't seem to be. There are some excellent audio-only 'vids' uploaded on youtube of their concerts from the 70s. There was a kind of flood after Dunford passed away. There's this Turn of Seasons thing which has live performances of Let it Grow and Cold is Being, very rare for that era.
Lancaster show has an excellent performance of Day of the Dreamer.

^You went with your gut instinct Bob, so its all good as the youngsters say nowadays. It was a good review to me because I always appreciate one with an album's backstory, which you did really well on Camera Camera.

It was SteveG. Both yours and his were excellent. At the time it was sort of understood that Renaissance had to change with the times. Of course it was long before the internet so I didn't have to read a lot of negative opinions. I was just glad they were back and making good music and touring so we could keep hearing their old stuff!

I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I compared them to Martha & the Muffins and Scandal (featuring Patti Smyth!) in my review a few years back. That was maybe a little harsh but at the time I was working my way through the entire discography in chronological order and the abrupt change in style on Camera Camera was so striking. At least with Genesis and Yes they spread out their dive into 80s pop-rock over several albums so by the time Abacab and Big Generator came around they were almost predictable.

Coincidentally, to my delight, Camera Camera bagged a five star review yesterday (it wasn't me, I had given it four stars two months ago).
True, it's kind of confused, but it has quite some variety and many ideas, it's original and fresh in its confusion.

Oh, Black Lucia...just googled it and it's from a 1993 album. Haven't even heard it. The only one that I have is High Land Hard Rain, their 1983 album, which has some very fine acoustic guitar.
Yup, Two Wheels Good, released as Steve McQueen in the UK. Indeed, stretches of that album are up there with anything in the 80s.

I have one Aztec Camera CD which I bought when I mistook them for Aztec Two Step 
There was a song called Black Lucia that I LOVE. Simply a beautiful ballad Prefab sprout - there are 4 tracks in a row from "Two Wheels Good" that are among the best of anything from the 1980s

When all is said and done, you lived through the time. I didn't...I mean, I sort of did but spent my infancy in the 80s. My first vivid memories of music date to the 90s. I like very little 'regular' 80s music...prefer either the jazz-rock/sophisto pop side like Prefab Sprout or Aztec Camera or the heavy metal side. Also, really bold, experimental albums like Kate Bush's The Dreaming but with those albums, the sound matters little imo.

I don't remember having that reaction to Ukraine Ways at all, but maybe I embraced the 1980s sound more than I realized.
