Well, that's ruined that song for me.

The Revealing Science of God, just so something from their masterpiece has a long shot at winning this poll.

Dunno if there is vinyl of Yes Studio (or the 90s albums live and studio, I assume not) but Mindrive could be included... it's as long as CTTE anyway.Still went for Gates though. Probably the Yes number that has equal parts mystery, excitement and poignancy a great testament to composition and musicianship.P.S. Awaken could be a, er, bonus track... | Yeah, I guess Mind Drive could have been included, though I doubt it would have gotten many votes. As far as I'm concerned, that song is incredibly frustrating. It's got some terriffic moments that I absolutley love, that are as great as anything else they have done, (mainly the beginning, with the soft guitarplaying and then that magnificent wacky build-up, and at the end that they repeat the same agressive part from the beginning, plus some extra keyboard solos... and then there's a lovely acoustic passage in the middle of the song too), and then they have some incredibly cheesy parts that kind of remind me of Disney's "it's a small world" or whatever that just bore me and ruin the song for me (I believe I can blame Anderson for ruining this song). |
Agree 100% about Mind Drive---so close to greatness--but Jon sings way too much and repeats the same bad lyrics--this was the problem with Jon---lot's of self-indulgent stuff ---I do think the XYZ take off is very exciting where Howe, Squire and White shine---and it does have some great instrumental parts from Howe mostly---but too much bad Jon. | Yeah, my impression is that the better parts are the ones intended for XYZ, the bad ones were added by Anderson, so in this particular case he may be to blame for ruining the song. As for Howe, Squire, and White shining, I would add Wakeman too, he sounds very cool and menacing. Perhaps even Anderson shines, in the good parts of the song (I couldn't picture Robert Plant doing a better job, which was suposed to be the idea in the early 80's)... but in the bad parts he is just annoying.

Maybe this time of the four sides of TFTO I will give a vote to "The Ancient". Still giving no love for "Bill Gates of Delirium".
EDIT: Turns out I already voted on this one. Thought it was just another Yes epics poll.

I started listening to Yes in 1970 and Yes Album , Fragile, CTTE are still my favorites ....so CTTE would be my favorite from that list. I have always felt that there is an unpleasant 'dissonance ' to some of the music on Relayer and I miss Bruford and Wakeman....though Gates is a nice track.

The list only included songs that took up the entire side of an album. "Awaken" shared side 2 with "Wondrous Stories"
