We really have similar tastes i've noticed. Anathema is soooo close. | Yes i think we do, and if i was in the intrumental mood, i might have mentioned John Mclaughlin myself.
All in all a fantastic year, a lot of great albums didnt even make the finals.
| Yeah. Like Nine Inch Nails: The Fragile Halo 14 album. That is a goody!

| That sole vote came from me, my friend lol! As I mentioned to John when I voted for it, I love at least 8 of the albums on this list! I mean, REALLY love lol! But in the end, I lazily voted for the one of them that I play the most. Apart from that, the opening two tracks `Coily' and `Xingu' are the cats pajamas!

Since no one gave votes to Mahavishnu Orchestra "Lost Trident Sessions", it gets my vote. Fantastic fusion album!

Besides a lot of people when they first listen to STILL LIFE aren't gonna go ape sh*t screaming 'that was amazing! Color me in goosebumps!! Lol' Na. It's a very technical listen. You really have to sit with it to pick up on everything to fully appreciate its mastery. I still feel its their best album of all time, but Black Water Park is not far behind.
|
Yeah, you've got a good point. In my opinion, it's the best album on the list by far, but by no means at all is it the most accessible. It's a challenging listen, but a rewarding one if you take the time to appreciate the musical nuances and just how well the story matches the playing. Although I'm still happy to be the oddball who thinks their absolute best is Ghost Reveries. Once the 2005 poll comes around, that's my vote for sure!
|
It's no more challenging than anything else on this list, and I went wow the first time I heard Still Life, my first Opeth album as well. And I'll vote for Still Life as well, I need to hear UTO but nothing else on this list really excites me.

Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005
