Just an innocent question- what does Katrina have to do with September
11?
I'm sure we're all quite sympathetic all around the world, the same way
we would be if a disaster of that magnitude happened in China (where it
does often when the Yangtze floods) or Turkey (earthquake central). Just
wondering.

"I had hoped the world community would taken a collective breath, cleaned its eyeglasses, sat up straight in its chair and looked at things a little differently after September 11, 2001....Nope...hasn't happened yet....I hope there's still time."
Yo ... what the hell... Im sorry pal.. but there are a lot worst things that happened in our world then September 11, I agree it is sad... but since it was on AMERICAN soil.. the whole world has to turn our eyes on that??? come on man, what about the millions of kids under like 10 who die every year in Africa... or what's going on in Irak. There are many other things in our world going on... and Im afraid your example was just the worst one to take out.

Happy to reply Heptade....
Just noting that most human beings are just as inhumane and
self-absorbed then as they are now...I'd hoped that we would have
learned lessions such as looting is bad and shooting your sister for
ice is even worse, that a rampant dependence on petroleum is
counterproductive, that "ugly" and "arrogant" are not terms reserved
exclusively for Americans, that "intolerance" is not a term reserved
exclusively for Americans, that even the largest sums of money can't
cure simple killers like diarrhea and diptheria, that mankind is
simply not powerful enough yet to control mother nature.... those sort
of things... I'd hoped Sept. 11th was a wake up call...My point was we
are still zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
I was wondering...Are you from Edmonton?
It wasn't you and your wife who my wife and I shared beers on the beach
in Puerto Vallarta this past July was it? Aint' it a small world....

Nope, I've never been to Puerto Vallarta. Or Edmonton. I've been to Des
Moines, though. I do like beers.
I see your point. But no event is a big enough wake up call for humanity.
We just muddle on, making the same mistakes.

No, he said that because it happened in the US it doesn't deserve to be "overvalued" (uhhh, I'm sure that means something) compared to the rest of the world.

It would be better if the U.S. was still valued, but everyone else was
valued as much, I suppose...is that the gist?
We could all use a little less media coverage, though. Of everything.

I'm currently drinking a beer. A leaf just drifted past
my window, and I need to clean the bathroom.
