Okay, somebody was asking why Jan Akkerman doesn't have
his own listing in the Archives. Focus does, but he did have some projects of his own, some great Fusion and some classical lute music. One of the best guitarists of that era. Is he still active? Who knows... Fred Frith is another story. Besides being a mainstay of Henry Cow, perhaps the most influential band in the RIO and Canterbury categories, he's performed with and influenced practically everybody else in those schools, right through the New York avant-garde with Zorn and Laswell ("Naked City" and "Massacre", both absent from these pages), produced a mountain of solo and collaborative projects that touch on almost every area of modern innovative music, and continues with a dizzyingly prolific output. Sure would be nice to have some kind of oversight into this fascinating discography... ![]() |

Agreed - I'm a fan of Henry Cow and some of the related spin offs and solo projects, but he's too prolific to keep up with. Definitely one to include in the archive, though I don't know if anybody is sufficiently well acquainted with his output to supply the necessary bio and discography.

He definitely does belong. I know "Speechless" and "Gravity", both excellent albums. |

I also listened to "Speechless" and "Gravity" in mp3 format, and both of them got me very interested in this artist. Unfortunately I do not know tracklisting of either of these albums, nor I have any info about line-up etc etc. I started the same topic about 3 months ago but never received any sufficient information. Moreover the thread got moved into "Non-prog" section. Let's see what's going to happen now.... . |

HC was a monster act and Frith is loved.
Loved. Even the totally wacko stuff with the guitars, tables and chains. SM. Edited by SlipperFink |

I LOVE the career of Fred Frith... He participated in MANY bands
(Massacre, Naked City, Skeleton Crew, Material, The Art Bears, the
already cited Henry Cow, and some others) in addiction to a WONDERFUL
solo career... Well, if you find anything that Fred Frith (or Bill
Laswell, John Zorn, Mick Harris, Bill Frisell, Ken Vandermark, and many
others avant-garde artists) plays, at least, CHECK IT. It's high
quality music!

Gravity featured Aqsak Maboul, Zammla Mammas Manna and The Muffins in various permutations. The first half of Speechless was recorded with Etron Fou Leloublan and the second half with Massacre (Fred plus Bill Laswell and Fred Maher). For the full lowdown (track listings, recording details etc) follow this link http://www.fredfrith.com/discography/index.html |

Thanks, Syzygy, for useful reply. I also hope that someone here will be able to add FF to Archives one day. |
