I don't know if it's just me but lately the site has been down quite often, sometimes for a while and sometimes a bit longer.

Why is this?

I occasionally find that I have to delete my PC's temporary internet files before I can access the site. Try that next time you have a problem Citanul.

Could just be a bandwidth problem at your end- upload, not download. Are you doing any file sharing at the time? (spyware can have the same effect) These apps have a habit of stealing all your upload bandwidth unless managed. You need to be able to send and receive acknowledgements to the distant server or the connection may timeout

Yes, usually I am doing file sharing. But shouldn't that affect all sites then, or am I mistaken?

Most file sharing apps allow you to regulate how much bandwidth you allocate for upload- look into it and try setting the your upload to a lower setting
