 Topic: The Yes Album

I was really really impressed with this album. I have listened to Close to the Edge and Relayer for about a year now and I love both of them. I think The Yes Album is just as good as these though, it is really good.
Tell me what you think or if this is as good as CTTE.

Really good although I enjoy CTTE a bit more. I love the ending of the song CTTE. I love the whole thing but the end always gets me when I'm listening. The Yes Album has some top quality stuff though.

It's excellent, for me there are some better Yes studio albums
including CTTE but live on stage, the material from the Yes Album
always goes down well; Starship Trooper is usually the final encore;
they usually play All Good People; and Yours Is No Disgrace is great
live. Live versions of these plus Perpetual Change appear on the double
CD Yessongs, which you might want to try. Wakeman is on keyboaords on
the live versions and he adds something, in my opinion. There are also
songs from the Yes Album on the DVD of last years 35th anniversary tour.

Yep, it's a great album. My favourite is Starship Trooper, which has one of Yes' best melodies ("speak to me of summer"). I also love Perpetual Change, the fast instrumental middle section is amazing, when they play two different pieces of music in two different time signatures at the same time (listen to it on headphones).

best of yes, no doubt. I think this is the type of music Yes were made for. Not agressive prog.

Great album, but some of those classic riffs on the album were first heard in Steve Howe's previous band Bodast - especially the Starship Trooper themes (check out Nether Street). Presumably why Howe was asked to replace the very able guitarist, Pete Banks; the first two Flash albums show Banks was equal to Howe as a player, but lack some ability to create memorable riffs/themes. BTW having seen Flash live in 1973 or '74 (supporting Beck Boggart and Appice, in one of the best double act gigs I've seen) 'Flash' was a very apt name for the band.

i prefer it, it has more diversity and the music
"breathes" more than the very "composed" CTTE. it
seems to have survived all those years very well!

I prefer it too. The people who duck for cover can return safely  . CTTE is Yes' best loved album, but still there are quite some people who prefer The Yes Album, and I'm one of them.
The Yes album is the album that really turned me into a Yes fan. It's an incredible album. The energy, the melodies, the playing (especially Howe and Kaye) and the production with all the stereo effects are all fantastic.

Certainly a remarkable record and the one, which allured me to the magical experience of Yes in the first place. Not as consistently brilliant as CttE in my opinion but nevertheless, there is much to love on tracks like Yours Is No Disgrace (a godlike instrumental part for one), Starship Trooper (Brufford at his most delicate in the first part, just adore it) and my fav Perpetual Change (a 'hotchpotch' that actually works  )
Hmmm, writing this post makes me want to give TYA a listen before calling it a day in this part of the world, where the night is already well upon us...

Matter of fact, after all these years, and finally having reached maturity, I might prefer the Yes album to CTTE!!!

wow, that's about exactly how I feel. The Yes Album is what made
a fan of me, and do prefer listening to it over Close to the Edge.

I think it's slightly below Fragile and CTTE... but I usually think of the three in the same breath.
