Pink Floyd is probably the most over-worshipped band of all time, that's for sure. Also, who is this, she's hot!

I begin to wonder if the points of all the ancient myths are solemnly di-rected straight.. at.. meeeeeeeeee!

What is the definition of over-rated?
I'm not a huge fan of DSOTM as I find it a bit soporific (but that
applies to most PF songs for me, all at the same medium pace). I do
like to play it from time to time and it's a very well recorded album.
Obviously a lot of people rate it highly and it deserves its position
as one of the top prog rock albums.
Just because a lot of people like it and you don't, that doesn't make it over-rated.
Please let's have a ban on these "over-rated" threads.

I like the album itself and do think it might be overrated on a prog-rock scale but not on just a rock scale. I like Pink Floyd, but I tend to think that they are also overrated. They have four or five amazing albums (unless you don't like DSOTM) yet they also have four or more just-okay albums, therefore I tend to think they get too much praise...but personally I don't think DSOTM is overrarted because of what it's done in terms of bringing some sort of popularity to progressive rock.

Are my eyes deceiving me ???
Pink Floyd,ELP,Genesis and Yes are over-rated????????
I hate these over-rated threads and i say again OVER-RATED THREADS ARE OVER-RATED!!
All you get are people moaning about how they 'don't get' this or that album - get over it - move on - its all about OPINION - if we liked the same stuff it'd be boring - Dark Side of the Moon is a classic to a lot of people - if you ain't one of those people, so what???

Beethoven's Fifth Symphony is overrated.
Just kidding on that last one, BTW. DSOTM is a classic. Classics are not overrated, maybe overplayed, but definitely not overrated.

What does it matter if its overated or not?
Its only overated by the unintelligent mainstream sh*t heads that are the anti-prog. So what does it matter what the mainstream public thinks of an album.
Its good album either way. Not the best pink floyd album by far, but one of the best and most influencial albums in the music bussiness.

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

For me, it's not even THEIR best album. Wish You Were Here and The Wall are both better.

Thanks God DSOTM is overrated!!! I wish all other great prog-albums should be overrated too...
But the fact is the hiper-super-overrating of Madonna, Aguillera, 50 cent and all kind of crappy "music" and it's a damn!!!

I do agree that the album is highly overrated, but it's one of my
favorite albums. The signifigance of the album was the mostly
production, not necessaraly the songwriting. Also, I think this is one
of those albums where you can have metal, hard rock, classic rock, soft
rock, and prog rock fans and be able to listen to it without fighting
over the cd player. This album has set a standard, at least from a
production point of view. I will agree as well that this isn't the best
Floyd. Great way to introduce Floyd, though.

Some how i laugh when i see a thread starting is this or that overrated by a North American....the whole place over there is overrated, and nothing done by any musician is ever overrated. What a shame no NA bands have EVER reached the heights of DSOTM, or any other European prog band.

A little anti-American??
I agree that Pink Floyd as well as many other UK bands are among the best but don't discount the North American impact on music.
If you want to bash us Americans, go right ahead - you and the rest of
the world. Maybe you could stick to the topic though.

Although I am an American, I agree. I also agree that nothing done by a
musican is or should be overrated. Well said, Dream Orchestra.
