Ok, here's the deal. I want to get into some new prog bands but dont know where to start. The prog bands that i like already are Kansas, Rush, ELP, Yes, Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Symphony X.
Ive heard some Genesis...and i liked most of it...and i didnt really like Gentile Giant.

I know very little of classification or who's who but I wonder if you've heard any of
Jean Michel Jarre's stuff (not sure of the spelling). I used to have one album. I like it but it's wasn't complex or punchy enough for my taste now I think.

Music is the only art in which the beholders are not ashamed to remain fossilized as "beginners."
I like difficult music.

You should get into the space rock genre with artists like Ash Ra Tempel and Amon Duul II, Pink Floyd, (older) Porcupine Tree, any post rock also such as Mogwai or Mum

Giddy Up! "A Tab in the Ocean" is great! (I need it on CD. Is it even available on CD?). Also: "Remember The Future" by Nektar is excellent!
Captain Beyond, I am not familiar with.

I'm a fan the bands you mentioned. I like Vanden Plas quite a bit. Try the Fish sung Marillion. The stuff with the new singer is a little to breathy vox for me. Also, check out DT side projects. I like Platypus and Jelly Jam for this. Go to the Magna Carta label website for samples of other music. I recommend The Explorers Club - Age of Impact very highly. Petrucci tears it up.
Like you, however, I am still looking for new bands I've never heard. DT has been a real savior for me since Rush started mellowing.
