Topic: Need some primo violin prog Posted: December 01 2005 at 23:02 |
I have a kid who plays violin. I took him to a Kansas concert a while back and now he sees the some potential for the instrument. I want to put together a really great CD of some great prog songs featuring violin. The Kansas stuff is obvious (Can I Tell You, Death of Mother Nature Suite), plus I have -
Apocolypitc Bore - Amon Duul 2 Neignborhood 3 - The Arcade Fire Dilbar Dil Se Pyare - Caravan The Great Spectacular - Dixie Dregs Nirvana Reprise - Henry Cow Stupid Questions - New Model Army Music for a Found Harmonium - Penguin Café Orchestra Cockroach - Sleppytime Gorilla Museum Tarzan - VDGG
Any other (or better) suggestions?

It's more jazz/rock, but try the "Renaissance" piece on J.L Ponty/Aurora album(1976). It makes me alsmost cry.

Jean-Luc Ponty, Eddie Jobson are two "prog" violinists; David Cross
with King Crimson 1973/74; but also try early Mahavishnu Orchestra with
Jerry Goodman for some fast n furious improvising (albums: Inner
Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire)

You might want to listen to some Jean-Luc Ponty. He's a Jazz guy. But; certainly one of the best in the World.

Not prog, but Kronos Quartet's Purple Haze (Hendrix). They actually imitate feedback with their acoustic instruments.
