  9. Zbigniew Boniek: One of the fastest men on the field ever.
  10. Jan Ceulemans: Too tall, heavy and slow, but the guy always managed to win every ball and made a lot of horrible but valuable goals.

Franz Beckembauer is a wonderful player... So was Van Basten. Great list. Johan Cruyff, to me, is on the top.

1: Zinedine Zidane
2: Maradona
3: Hristo Stoichkov
4: Paulo Maldini
5: Gary Lineker
6: Lothar Matthäus
7: Thierry Henry
8: Ronaldinho
9: Steven Gerrard
10: Jürgen Klinsmann

Henry, Ronaldinho and Gerrard all have a long career still ahead of them, so they can easily climb a few places on the list

Hey Fantomas, I missed Hristo Stoichkov, the guy was pure heart and b*lls, you could se in his face that loosing wasn't an option for him.

Wonderful player.

I don't know if most of you are too young but I remember the National team from Polland in Argentina 78 that was awesome:

Guys like Zbigniew Boniek, Kazimierz Deyna, Grzegord Lato, Henryk Kasperczak, Andrzeg Szarmach, Wladislaw Smuda and the incredible Jan Tomasewski, What a great team.

After they sent Perú to hell in 1/4 finals, I believed they deserved to be champions, we met them again in Spain 82 but this time they killed us with a clear 5 - 1.

Many great teams didn't win a world cup (see Denmark in 86, Brazil in 82, Holland in 74, Hungary in 54, etc...). It's kinda frustrating to the lovers of a well-played football. Btw, Flamengo in 1981 was the best team of the world. And I mean it. If that team would have gone to the world cup in 82, the history today would be different.

I'd like to remember the bravest team I saw playing: HOLLAND 1978, specially at the final game against Argentina! They played tremendously against a huge pressure from all squares. My God, and if that Resenbrink's kick which hit the woods in the last minute had entered the net?

Yes, these are very painful ones for the lover of great football, especially Hungary because they have not even qualified for a major championship in 20 years, but they were once all-conquering and don't have the trophy to show for it ...

Dear God! Who created this list?

Zidane was the best two years ago. Van Nisterlooy showed nothing in last season, same with Figo, Beckham and Del Piero.

OK now it`s time for my list:

1. Frank Lampard - without him Chealsea is nothing
2. Kaka - one of the most intelligent players in the world
3. Christiano Ronaldo - superb technique, too bad he can`t spread his wings in Man Utd
4. Rafael Van Der Vaart - simply amazing playmaker and scores a lot goals too. What is he doing in HSV? he should play in Real Madrid!
5. Ronaldinho - I don`t like the guy (Barcelona sucks) but I have to admitt he`s technique is outstanding. The whole team plays for him. he should be playing if RM too

A lot of mexican players are also very good, especialy of Cruz azul and Chivas, which are my fav teams for sure.

But i dont think anyone in this forum know something about Cruz Azul or Chivas

Anyway, Carlos Salcido and Oswaldo Sanchez are both fantastic players... you will see them for sure in the world cup... ( of course they`re not the best soccer player in the world ), but are very good!!

The only thing I know about soccer is that all the kids in the United States who play it have really annoying, right-wing neo-nazi mothers who drive Ford Escalades and other earth-raping-like SUVs .

So how about this "footballer"?  This guy kicked a 7 pound (3.2 kilo) egg-shaped ball through a goal that was 18 1/2 feet (5.6 meters) wide and 10 feet (3 meters) off the grond, from 63 yards (57.6 meters) away, with over a ton (1,000 kilos) of men (11 of them) running straight at him.  And if that wasn't impressive enough, check out the picture carefully - the guy only has half a foot!

Now that's some football!

Not for the list yet, but the German members kow about the Peruvian Claudio Pizarro who has been elected the best forward of the last Champions League and a future top 10 Paolo Guerrero both from Bayern Munchen. 

Also our friends from Holland know about another Peruvian Jefferson Farfán from PSV Eindhoven, this one could be a top 10 soon, he's only 21.
