was searching around for something to buy today.. and I ran across a
couple ablums by I Pooh. Checked here at PA's.. not listed
(unless I missed them) yet is listed on a website dedicated strictly to
Italian prog. Are they or aren't they prog..
and is 'Un po' del nostro tempo migliore' worth getting |

Hello Micky, Pooh is one of the most successful Italian pop (not prog) band; at the beginning of their career they were a beat group. Their first LP "Per Quelli Come Noi" contains covers by The Who, The Kinks, Spencer Davis Group along with original material. I can consider prog this albums: 1) Opera Prima (1971) - fantastic, even if not prog at all. 2) Parsifal (1973) - prog/pop 3) Un Pò Del Nostro Tempo Migliore (1975) - prog/pop Start first with "Opera Prima" then the others. Anyway, take a look at this site, you'll find the complete discography and you can also download some Mp3s: http://www.aruga.com/pooh/ Edited by ANDREW |

In my opinion the only Pooh's album that could be worth listen to for a prog lover is Parsifal... In Italy they're very popular and commercially successful but their music is not prog but just easy cheesy pop...

At first they were almost prog. The sole very prog album of this band is "PARSIFAL". Or rather: THE SOLE COMPOSITION PROG AT 100% OF THE POOH is "PARSIFAL"!!!
In www.progarchives.com the POOH could be introduced in the category PROG RELATED, even if were plus PROG FOR FASHION THAT FOR OTHER!!! |

I think "Opera Prima" is as proggy, as say, the Moodies or BJH.
Or as the Bee Gees "Odessa", which is pretty prog at times as well, in that sweeping symphonic way. And I've just had my post count erased for the millionth time. Sigh. If I cared enough, I'd do something about it. Edited by Heptade |

Prog-related??? Do you know how many Italian bands/artists (non-prog) did release prog/almost prog albums in the seventies??? So many... POOH plays pop music for 40 years, but you can't classify them as prog just for one or two albums at the beginning of their career (IMO). |

Yeah, I Pooh has few prog albuns and most of them are beat or disco.
You must take care with the albuns. I think from 70 to 75 there may not
have problems, because if not full progressive rock, maybe something
interesting to a prog rock fan. Later albuns should be avoided (1978
for example) unless you like disco music.

The albums "Opera Prima", "Un Pò Del Nostro Tempo Migliore" and especially "Parsifal" have prog elements, but the rest of their career is completely different (although excellent and successful).
