Sure, prog had a lot to do with long songs but are epics the best, or are short songs cooler (even if it is all an opinion). Sorry about the made up song lengths (e.g. crazy and micro-epic). I know they're annoying.

The answer to this question is one that deserves, above most others, the answer "depends." I don't believe one can (or at least, I simply cannot) choose the best song length. There are legendary songs in all of these areas. It's tough to choose between songs like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (in your tree, it's crazy), Supper's Ready (Epic), and things like Book of Saturday by King Crimson, which is almost "Very Short." If you catch my drift. |

I've been in at least 10 forums and all the threads usually repeat. But this is the first forum in which I find such an obsession with the lenght of the songs.
I wouldn't add or take a second from any one. Worry about quality, forget about lenght. Iván Edited by ivan_2068 |

Point made. Two of my fave prog songs: All Of The Above by Transatlantic at 30:59 Lost Without A Trace by Wigwam at 2:32 In short, it depends. |

Don't you know that the size doesn't matter, its what you do with it that counts. |

size may matter a little, but too long can be as bad as too short, me I'm more of the short and sweet type of person like a firecracker. I like epics though. |

most songs I like are somewhere between, 6-8 minutes, though my favorites are higher, I'm going with quantity here.

Longer (8.00 - 12.00) is actually quite optimal... A song you can get into and love long enough Although Epic is also great |

4-8 is the ideal for me, though lengthy songs (with sensible musicianship) are also great.
