I think Thrak is one of the best post 70's Crimson releases. Also, The Power To Believe is more of a throwback to the Larks Tongues in Aspic era of the band mixed with the newer The Construction of Light sound the band explored and is excellent. I rarely listen to the 80's ourput and enjoy everything they did up to Red the best. They are one of my favorite bands and I have all of their releases.

Sorry to be discouraging ... but I do believe that my favourite KC albums are that run from In The Court to Red ... and that the following albums aren't to my taste ...
In fact, I actually prefer The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles and Fripp to the 80s and 90s stuff ... If you like 60s psych then definitely check that one out

I quite agree with you. I like "Discipline", but the other two '80s albums are nothing special. I don't know anything of the more recent stuff, though from what I've heard here there's absolutely no comparison with their '70s output. The band's musicianship remains outstanding, but I'm no fan of Belew's vocals, and that puts me off a bit.

Not trying to disagree with you, but I don't see how you can compare an
album like Lizard or Islands, and say they're better than The Power to
Beleive, when The Power to Beleive is so radically different from those
other releases.

Discipline, Beat and Three Of A Perfect Pair are in the same style. If you like Discipline you'll like the three albums. Beat may be the weakest of those three but it's not a bad album, if you like the softer side of King Crimson.
Thrak is a very good album, with a harder sound reminding more to the Red era. The concept of the double trio is very interesting.
Vroom was an EP with different versions of some of the songs of Thrak, plus a pair of additional tracks. From my point of view this is not necessary.
The Construktion of Light and The Power to Believe are both similar sounding, they are not far from Thrak's style. Good albums.
I would begin with Thrak.

I'm with Vogre, in that the most interesting work since Discipline is the Projekcts. Just lots of incredible playing, in the spirit of the great jazz improvisers, imo. If you love the instrumental interplay of great musicians spurring each other on, these are your cds. Because it is improv, there are lulls as they find their way, but there are so many high points you forgive the weaker moments. Many of the songs on 'The Construkction of Light' grew from these improvs, though they are fresher on the Projekcts. I wish Fripp would spend the rest of his career doing this style of music.

I'm still missing Lizard, Starless & Bible Black and Islands. I haven't listented to those albums yet, but I know I'll end up buying them eventually , so which one would you suggest out of those three for me to get first?
So far In The Wake Of Poseidon is my favorite album by KC.

Well, I don't listen to it much, but from memory, I'd give THRAK a solid 3 stars. It's alright but not the best that the new era of Crimson would produce IMO. That title falls to The Power to Believe.![](smileys/smiley4.gif)

KC along with Yes are probably the most influencial prog band that ever existed.
Try and get every album.

^ I have to agree.
One of, if not the only "prog rock" band to stay consistently fresh and innovative.

It's difficult to tell you which album to listen to because there is not only one King Crimson. The newer stuff is so different from the 70s releases that you can't even compare those two eras. Personnally, I like all KC's period but all of their stuff are so eclectic that we can only suggest you to pick up the album with you favorite cover and try it

One good thing of King Crimson is that you can find a lot of different
sounds and styles and its only one band. Sort of like a rainbow ![](smileys/smiley4.gif) . . . maybe a dark rainbow.
The studio albums I'm missing are: The construcktion of light , beat, three of a perfect pair.

If you have an open mind, and I mean a reallly open mind, you could give The ConstruKction of Light and ProjeKct 2: Space Groove a try.

Yeah Space Groove is cool. It is.... hmmmm groovy ![](smileys/smiley2.gif) Seriously, I like it and you can try it but, as I've said, don't expect anything as it won't be the same band or genre. It will be a totally different experience. King Crimson really is a PROGRESSIVE band.

That's what I meant.
Lizard and Islands are not very similar albums, but they have song, ambient and inovative sounds.
Power to believe has no song and "personality" as mentioned albums.
Also I can't stand Belew's voice. It's agressive, anoying comparing to Lake, Boz, Wetton on previous albums.

On DVD Deja vroom Fripp said that his favorite KC albums are ITCOCK and ISLANDS.
Give Islands a chance, before Starless and bible black.
