Topic: Oasis vs Coldplay Posted: June 23 2006 at 15:07 |
Both these bands were supposed to be the biggest thing since The Beatles (according to some rock critics)
I didnīt give the "neither" option BTW , if you donīt like either just pretend you have to choose(gun to head situation)
I would vote Coldplay, Iīm not a big fan of theirs but they are definitely better than Oasis IMO.

Well, I'd have to vote for Coldplay, because boring though they may be, their collective IQ at least hits triple digits.

Coldplay, one of the better Pop/Rock bands around at the moment. IMO.

The first voter for Oasis didn't make a comment, the second one (that's me ) sez: They're not the biggest thing since the Beatles, their IQ may be way below freezing temperature - still I like the odd Gallagher-song now and then. (And I have to admit that I don't know Coldplay well enough...)

Oasis. Although I'm in no way a fan, Noel Gallagher has written (or rewritten, to be strictly accurate) some genuinely memorable tunes.
Despite having heard lots of Coldplay, I can never remember a single line from any of their songs.

Eh...If Coldplay stayed with their Parachutes-style music, I'd vote for them, but I suppose Oasis wins.

I actually haven't heard much Oasis, but they're bad from what I heard. My mom is obsessed with Coldplay so I've heard most their songs. They aren't bad really (I actually like some stuff by them), just pretty boring in large doses and all their songs sound a little too similar.

I like both bands, and both are good rock/pop bands, but my vote goes to Coldplay.

Oasis I suppose. They at least made some good songs. Coldplay haven't.

Coldplay for me. Oasis are burnt out already and their last three albums are poor appart from a few good songs.

Memorable != good. Pump up the Jam is one of
the most memorable tunes you'll ever hear. I doubt anyone - even the
writers - would argue that it's a particularly good song.
There's a myth that way too many people have bought into; that it is
difficult to write a catchy tune. Not at all. There are a few, simple
ground rules to stick to, and if you do that and are utterly shameless,
you will write a tune that sticks in people's heads. Wheter it then
becomes an actual hit is dependent on many other factors.
But memorable says nothing except that it's probaly repetitive, simple and predictable.

Coldplay I suppose. They're more interesting than Oasis. I liked the first two Oasis albums when they came out but these days I cant bear listening to their music. There are some good ideas in there, but not the musical skill, or intelligence among the individuals to really produce something fresh sounding. Their vocals grate and their songs are predictable.
IMO..

I don't like any of those bands at all ....
but Coldplay is better IMO, because of its first record "Parachutes".

Coldplay, simply because they have the current zeitgeist in their music, and Oasis still have that of the 1990s era of Britpop.
I like both - but not enough to put on my weekly playlists. Once a month, maybe.
