My friend got a leaked version of the new Iron Maiden album. he told me that it is an extremely progressive album. the band uses many different time signatures, it's a concept album (actually part 2 of their Seventh Son of a Seventh Son album, which was btw, semi-progressive) The songs average 9-10 minutes in length and there's even some Crimson influence this time around. idk about you, but from these details, it makes me excited since i love Maiden but always felt they could take their sound further than straight up heavy metal tunes.opinions??

Wow, I didn't realize it was coming out (and therefore, leaked a few weeks early) so soon. Once I track it down, I'll give my opinion (though I can't say I've been happy with their work since Seventh Son).

9-10 minute average my ass! 7:15 != 9-10 On a somewhat related note, if you check the band's main article, it mentions that they've covered Space Truckin' and Hocus Pocus as b-sides. |

I have info about both. The album is called "A Matter of Life and Death", and the cover art (very impressive indeed) can be found on their website, www.ironmaiden.com. BTW, I already knew about the progressive nature of the album - and I am one of the foremost supporters of Maiden's induction into PA.

I liked "7th son of a 7th son" very much, so i would be very interested to hear the new Maiden album, i heard Bruce sing several weeks ago and the magic is still there, i'd love to see 'em in PA but they'd have to include all the heavy metal albums too - delicious!!!!

If it's like you describe, it might even lead to an inclusion of Iron Maiden as Prog Related ... in the meantime you can review them on my website. |

Wow! I'd love to hear Bruce yodelling on this one!
Anyways, that song 'The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg' didn't sound all that wrong to me. I liked it much better than most songs on 'Dance Of Death'...Up The Irons!
Still hoping for that one hour, multi-part, conceptual song about Life, the Universe and Everything...

I heard The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg, and while it is very good,I still wouldn't call it progressive.

Examples of why Maiden should be at least considered Prog related :
Phantom of the Opera
Remember Tomorrow
Still Life
To Tame a Land
Losfer Words
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Alexander the Great
7th son of a 7th son
Blood Brothers
Paschendale
and many others...
If these songs don't have a prog approach, what do you call it ?

While I understand the owners desire to make the site more inclusive,I have been against the prog related category from the very beginning, and so I don't concern myself with the addition of prog related bands.
