Topic: king's x Posted: August 11 2006 at 20:49 |
ok, im not really sure where this should be so I put it here. A band I would like to see added to progarchives is King's x. I'm a fan of their music, even if I don't quite consider it prog at all times. So why do I think they belong here? Has anyone bothered to read the description we have up for prog metal? It clearly labels King's X as an example of the softer side of prog metal. And yet they are not officially listed as a prog band by this site. So either change the description of prog metal(I'm fine with this), or add them(not too sure what everyone else's opinion of them being prog is). Thanks

Now there's no more oak oppression, For they passed a noble law, And the trees are all kept equal By hatchet, axe, and saw.

If you are suggesting them for inclusion in the archives the topic should go in "Suggest New Bands/Artists".

If they're not in the archives, then maybe they shouldn't be in the Progressive Archives' write-up of progressive metal:
"Progressive metal could be broken down into countless sub-genres
corresponding to certain other styles of music that have influenced
progressive metal groups. Two bands that are commonly identified as
progressive metal, King's X and Opeth, are at opposite ends of the
sonic spectrum to one another. King's X are a group influenced very
heavily by softer mainstream rock and grunge, whereas Opeth's growling
vocals and ultra heavy guitars usually see them cited as death metal."
I know that semantics dictates that the paragraph says King's X are "commonly identified" as prog-metal, and it doesn't mean we
identify them as such, but I remember first coming here and reading
this paragraph, then searching for the King's X page only to find
nothing, and scratching my head in bewilderment.

I only have Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (but I have Faith, Hope, Love on order) and I think they deserve to be added here to either Art Rock or Prog Metal (probably the former moreso, however).

Bluesaga: After you get "Gretchen...", try the self-titled fourth album from 1992. Out of all of the early albums that I've heard of theirs, this one stands out the most, to me anyway. Including King's X here sounds like a good idea to me.

I have Out of the Silent Planet, Gretchen, and Faith Hope Love. I really could go either way on their progginess. But for the sake of completeness, I'd prefer to include them.

Excellent band. They certainly deserve to be in the archives.
