Well if we aren´t talking Prog Rock or Prog metal, I will vote for rock. The only metal I listen to nowadays is Maiden and Wasp.
Rock includes Purple, Zeppelin, BOC, Velvet Revover, Scorpions, Rainbow etc....
So it´s Rock!!

Since the vast majority of metal bands are terrible, it's rock for me

If you classify Deep Purple, Zeppelin and co as rock, as well as most prog then rock.

Rock, the only bands that come close to metal that i listen to are Deep purple, Led Zeppelin and Rainbow and even these bands don't have much in common with ac/dc, Iron Maiden etc.

This is an early front-runner for "vaguest poll of the year" award. I like some metal and I like some rock. What does Joe Satriani fall under? You might say rock, but then you'd have to listen to songs like "Mind Storm" or "Devil's Slide"--they sound a lot like metal. What about Soundgarden and Alice in Chains? They were "grunge," which would normally equate to "alt-rock," but they had heavy, HEAVY influence from Sabbath, and often displayed the visceral qualities of metal. What about Sabbath themselves? By today's metal standards, they were about as metal-y as The Beatles. But is anybody gonna doubt their status as gods of metal?
And people calling Rush the first prog-metal band? What's WRONG with you? |

I'll have to go with metal. The production of metal is so much better than that of rock. I think the main reason why I'm so much more willing to listen to obscure metal bands than obscure rock bands is because of the production quality.

We're obviously not listening to the same metal then.

The production has very little to do with the quality of the music itself..

I'm not sure about that. Bad production can ruin music, and good production can make "bad" music seem better. - On topic, I prefer Rock over Metal. Perhaps it's prejudice, but most Metal is a little cheesy and sometimes childish in my opinion. However, I do enjoy a couple of Metal bands, especially Prog ones. Yes - bad production can sometimes ruin music, but the statement "good production can make "bad" music seem better" is just ridiculous and has no truth in it what-so-ever. |
