Payne is better technically. Aside from that aspect, it's a question of personal taste. I tend to say I like Payne better, I think he can deliver more emotion through his singing... although it really depends on the strength of the composition itself, and I haven't listened to much of the more recent Asia stuff.

John Wetton has actually labelled John Payne as being a 'crap singer', apparently, in a Classic Rock Magazine interview a few years back. This is a shameful thing to say, particularly when it's blatantly not true. I actually prefer the Payne era Asia to the mostly formulaic Wetton era- I think Payne etc have been treated poorly with the recent revival of the original Asia. But that's just my opinion...

When I first heard him, Wetton supplanted Greg Lake as the man with the sexiest singing voice I have ever heard. Need I say more?

They're both great.
I also prefer the Payne era of Asia to Wetton's.

Who is Payne? And what's Asia to do with Prog?
Wetton is a man, THE MAN, but not for Asia.

I think The Night Watch settles this topic. The vocals on the middle section are *perfect*.
