Note that this thread doesn't talk about the real punk.
Pop-punk, emo-punk, etc you name it. I would like to hear your opinion about this genre (not really expecting a lot of bashing though, but whatever ![]() ![]() |

Um......I like Green Day, if they are included in this thing. I know they are not modern, but......I dunno.

I would call Bad Religion the godfathers of modern punk.
Fast, melodic, catchy songs (typically less than 2 minutes) with real aggression. The late 80's is my favourite era of theirs - Suffer/No Control/Against the Grain are excellent albums. Miles better than Green Day IMO. http://badreligion.com/media/ Edited by enigma - January 16 2007 at 17:33 |

I love Jawbox (the post-Government Issue vehicle of J. Robbins) as well as his subsequent band Burning Airlines. Abrasive, exhilirating music yet by no means simplistic, coupled with Robbins' clever and literate (though quite elliptical) lyrics. Anyone wanting to check this out could start with the Jawbox album For My Own Special Sweetheart.
...also fond of Circle Jerks and Dead Kennedys, of course.

I love that Cardiacs band. Sometimes, a bit too anoying, as they tend to sound like punk squirrels, but the albums I have so far are tremendously funny.

One of my favourite is Blink-182. Too bad they've splitted up now. Do anyone know what Mark's new band, +44 sounds like ?

My daughter likes Blink-182 alot and listens to the +44 cd quite a bit.It doesn't sound much different than Blink, they aren't really breaking any new gorund. Now...Tom Delonge's Angels & Airwaves project is a big departure from Blink's sound. |

Maybe you guys can help out an old progger. I don't listen to the radio very much but I happened to hear a song twice lately that seems rather "punkish" and they have "carry on" repeated often towards the end so I don't know if that's the title or not. Haven't been able to catch who they are. I swear I hear a glockenspiel in there, too. Any ideas?

Green Day's "Dookie" is excellent, their other stuff mostly sucks.
I also enjoy Offspring, Bad Religion etc, though mostly in limited doses. Edited by Bj-1 - January 17 2007 at 14:24 |

hmm, i usually wouldn't talk about musicianship regarding to harcore-/punk, but i thought that blink 182's drummer was outstanding, this and their humour made me enjoy their songs a lot.

I believe the song you're refering to would be "welcome to the black parade" by My chemical romance. Here in Denmark it gets played constantly on the radio, danish mtv etc. They kind of suck though, imo, but they are popular as hell, at least here in Denmark.. |
