Being a Rush fan and all, I vote Peart.

I know somebody will hate me for this , but I have to vote for Neil - even though Palmer is also one of my favourites.

No surprise with The Professor way in the lead. As bombastic as some may say some of his (and his band) work may be, the guy is your typical canadian, humble & personalbe. ELP, if memory serves me correct, are often given as a synonym for pomposity & overblown importance ... (not by me, I can only talk about two of their songs - Simple Man, & Karn Evil 9, I think 0/

Me thinks Peart is going to give Carl a solid thumping on this one. Peart is really the best drummer there is. Just my opinion, though. E

Yawn. Another drum poll where none of my canditates gets the vote. Moerlen would have drummed circles around them, wrapped them up in aluminium foil, put them on the ends of his drumsticks and thus have given them a close experience what drumming is really about.

You've just given me a great idea! How about a facility where you can make an automatic response depending on the topic? If the topic mentions drumming you could just press a button and..........

I would, but it is not necessary; the Peart fans already invented it.

if I had to share royalties from the idea with all the Peart fans,I'd only get a one billionth share...
Anyway, isnt it time for you to mention that 30 minute drum solo....?
I suggest you watch this:

You are not even well informed, Tony; first of all I usually mention a 45 minute drum solo, and second it was not by Moerlen but by Vander. Unlike the Peart fans I am not a broken record that is stuck and goes repeating "Peart...Peart...Peart" all the time; on the contrary, I have given my acknowledgements to numerous drummers again and again. It is just typically of Peart fans that they react like spoiled little brats when one does not join in their chorus. And when one repays them a bit they react like little kids who have been stolen their facourite toy. Sorry, I accidentially hit the pick-up of your record player. I will put it on again. "Peart...Peart...Peart".

I sympathise because these drummers do get talked about all the time. you wouldn't get half the votes on a Vander vs. Moerlen poll and they're no less worthy

After watching various concerts (only video) of ELP and Rush I think Palmer is slightly better than Peart. His performance on California Jam 1974 was really outstanding!

I prefer Pearts drum soloing. "anatomy of a drum solo" convinced me of that. Palmer has awesome solos too but Pearts are more varied and thought-through. However, I much prefer Palmer's drumming during songs. It is incredible. Palmer gets my vote.
Peart is a monster tho...

Palmer is better in my opinion, Peart is to much of a mechanical drummer.

<beep...beep...beep> "National Health Service. What can we do for you?" "Can you please send an ambulance to a certain Tony Riviere? He does not seem to be well." "What symptoms does he show?" "In a 'Peart vs. Palmer" Poll thread in a progressive rock forum he mentioned he gave his vote to Palmer". "Wait a moment. You are not speaking of the out-and-out Rush fan Tony Riviere, are you?" "I am!" "That sounds very alarming indeed; I will send an ambulance immediately. Please stay close to him and try to resuscitate him by playing Rush records to him".
