I'd have to say Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt out of these.

I prefer Harris' diversity, she doesn't just do country and has worked with Neil Young and Bob Dylan, amongst others, who are not country artists.
Although the album Harris did with Ronstadt is not bad (my father has it).

Shania Twain is cute though...
OK Mr. Pollster, it's time for the best pop female singer poll....
when you ran out of music-related polls, try some food-oriented polls....

Emmylou Harris for me, her voice is pure emotion. I also admire the way she has ventured into Alternative Country. Her work with Danny Lanois and Neil Young on "Wrecking ball" was quite breathtaking.

Not an expert by any means... However, I wonder whether kd lang would qualify as country. I've got her "Ingénue" album, and it's great.

^ I was going to suggest her, but it's not really Country. More like "Post Country" ... even slightly progressive. Ingénue is one of my favorite albums!

Yuuuuuckckckckck!!!!!! Country, the most loathsome form of music, well before Rap and House.
I'm HEAVING!
you could've at least put Ricky Lee Jones on that list, even if she is not blatantly country.

I'm not very familiar with country music - but closest to c'n'w that I can get is Joan Baez. Gorgeous voice (and appearance too).
