Topic: Pavlov's Dog v Gnidrolog Posted: February 27 2007 at 22:15 |
Both are two lesser known art-rock bands are two of my favorite gems
found through the great people at this site. Which does everyone like
better?
It's a close call but I'll take Gnidrolog. I really like the dark
atmosphere they take into their music. Also, the agressive flute work
combined with the bluesy guitar really mix into an amazing medley for
me. Plus, the overwhelming of beauty of "Ships" givesme chills
everytime.

When I think of art rock, I think of 'Long Live Dead Man,' it is the most overblown, pretentious, artsy piece of mediocre. I do think Lady Lake is a very solid album, but I could never think of them more than a poor man's version of Gentle Giant.
I don't know Pavlov's Dog.

Pavlov's Dog for me, I saw them last year at Arrow Rock Festival. They were a very big surprise. They played really good and David Surkamp is still a good singer. He can play guitar too very good

This poll is unfair towards Pavlov's Dog - they will definitely loose here and rightly so when compared to such a brilliant band as Gnidrolog is.
But I like Pavlov's Dog (especially Pampered Menial), and Surkamp's unique voice as well.

I have no moral rights to vote, being acquainted with only one track of Pavlov's Dog (available for listening here in PA) vesus two full albums by Gnidrolog.
But I strongly suspect Gnidrolog would win even if I heard all Pavlov's Dog albums, since:
a. I wasn't pleasantly impressed by the track I mentioned;
b. There are very few bands I like more than Gnidrolog (such as VdGG or King Crimson), therefore this band is almost impossible to beat.

That doesn't make the poll unfair towards them, it just makes Gnidrolog better by popular opinion.

IMO these two bands are from different leagues, where Gnidrolog are far superior, that's why I consider it's not fair to compare the two, as Pavlov's Dog, being a very good band themselves, are bound to loose in this comparison.
What these two got in common anyway to be compared - only what you said yourself: " Both are two lesser known art-rock bands are two of my favorite gems found through the great people at this site"

I don't get too much out of Pampered Menial, which bores me a bit. Meanwhile Gnidrolog's Lady Lake is one of my favorite albums.
Gnidrolog by a mile!
