Topic: Ozzy Osbourne´s favourite guitarists Posted: July 16 2007 at 20:55 |
In a recent interview, Ozzy Osbourne was asked to name five of his favourite guitarists and these were the five.
Which one is your favourite of the five?

Randy of course. He's the reason I decided to take up music as a young kid. What a genius and an inspiration. He was taken far too soon

Randy Rhoads was also the reason I started both listening to and playing music. Easily one of the finest players ever in rock.. and completely rehauled heavy metal, making it what we know today. You are missed, Randy !

Stevie Ray Vaughan was THE best blues guitarist to ever walk this Earth.
Tony Iommi is the first Riff Master and invented metal.
Hendrix broke new ground (and many guitars!!!).
Randy Rhoads re-invented metal.
Zakk Wylde is a very competent guitarist.
So SRV for me with Iommi close behind.

Randy Rhodes went better with Ozzy. They had much better chemistry. But Zakk Wylde is pretty insane. I get scared looking at him. (although he can cut backa little bit on the pitch harmonic bends) they are cool ever once in a while...but ever other note...ah.

I voted Iommi as favourite, but the best of all of them was SRV without a doubt.

Randy Rhoads. Just listen to the solos on songs like Goodbye to Romance and Mr. Crowley.

So far as Ozzy's solo career goes, Rhodes without a doubt (just listen to his work on the 'Diary Of A Madman' album - especially SATO & the title track).
Iommi is in my opinion the finest heavy metal guitarist of his generation, effectively inventing 'that' sound in 1968/9 & maintaining quality over speed for the last (nearly) 40 years.
As far as modern blues players are concerned, SRV played with a feel and soul few have matched before or since.
Wylde & Hendrix? nevere been big fans of either to be honest...
A favorite among the above...? Almost impossible, but at a push, I'd have to say Iommi.
Or Stevie Ray...
No - Iommi!
Or.....

Randy is amazing, but after seeing Wylde live at Ozzfest he almost gives Randy a run for his money, but not quite.

Vaughan and Jimi seemed like the most logical choices to me. I chose Vaughan.
