we tend to do that, then have someone make a confused thread about it. Check out my new subgenres thread created a few months back, right after the art rock split. that was a hell of an argument.
Mathrock is good here, I'm glad they are joining the ranks.

Word B. So russian circles is Math rock? hmmm. i have heard a very little math rock, only bands like the newly added
Battles which i didnt quite like. I didnt notice a connection with
post rock with them as well but im just not well versed enough to have an opinion on the
genre yet. obviously i know about post rock i was just a little confused about when this addition happened. it seemed like i clicked the forum button one minute, went back to the homepage a minute later and all of a sudden the mathrock/postrock icon was there and i had heard nothing about this in discussion or announcement at all, it just kinda happened.

math rock focouses on odd time signatures and dissonance, it is easily confused for punk. post rock is atmospheric. there are some bands with a foot in both genres like 65daysofstatic and Russian Circles

Post rock is the more simple atmospheric music like GY!BE, or Sigur ros. Math Rock is like Russian circles, more of a complicated sound, with a spacey all together (at least, from the few math rock bands I've heard).

math rock pwns. and i feel the difference between math rock and post rock is simple (IMO). Space. losts and lots of space and ambiet sections. Both excellent genres. And im glad the finally added the much needed Math Rock Section.

many mathrock bands have formed over the past five to ten years, it had become a big and viable category of its own
..as for its relation to Postrock, it is usually lumped in with Postrock in the music mainstream though the two categories are not very connected other than time period and nationality, thus the need for a balanced distinction... I would prefer the two categories were separate altogether but at least the genre is recognized
