I can't remember if I voted in this thread at all back when it was created (since Magma's originality is still in question - a question no one here wants to/can answer, it seems) but Magma's music hasn't become any less boring since then, and I've given it enough opportunities to do so.

I have to hand it to Vander, though - he sure could outscream Schuldiner.

that's definitely true. just listen to "Earth" from the first album of Offering (another band of Vander; he also has a jazz trio, by the way). Vander screams like a madman on that track; he must have had a very sore throat afterwards

Just a little bump as I thought this old topic might complement the Death vs. Genesis poll.
Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

Schuldiner, I have almost no experience with Magma. Although creating a language is pretty impressive!

I'd say both were equally innovative in their own ways, but Schuldiner definitely had a longer-lasting and winder-ranging influence on music.
