I can't remember if I voted in this thread at all back when it was created (since Magma's originality is still in question - a question no one here wants to/can answer, it seems) but Magma's music hasn't become any less boring since then, and I've given it enough opportunities to do so.

that's definitely true. just listen to "Earth" from the first album of Offering (another band of Vander; he also has a jazz trio, by the way). Vander screams like a madman on that track; he must have had a very sore throat afterwards |

I'd say both were equally innovative in their own ways, but Schuldiner definitely had a longer-lasting and winder-ranging influence on music.
