the thing is with Hella is that they have different sounds throughout
Hold Your Horse Is is pretty much math rock Chirpin' Hard is relatively math rock Church Gone Wild (same album different disc) is avant noiserape madness and There's No 666 in Outer Space....I don't know what to call it. It's close enough to math though I suppose |

Yeah. Trephine are a math rock band, but the metal aspect in their music is very dominant so they're in one of the Prog metal genres.
It's a great band! I really like their music and I'm glad that you enjoyed it too, Seba. ![]() |

Hey why do they label Math Rock?...I can't its necessary, Math is very close to Experimental and Prog's main theme.

which is why it gets put in with the post/experimental crowd. everything on this site by definition is closely related to prog's main theme. listen to Don Caballero, Battles, or Hela, there is definitely a uniquely unifying sound around these bands that warrants the label.

I just think that Trephine and many other Math Rock bands are totally underrated. But perhaps it's because its a "newly discovered genre".

Can you tell us why you don't like those bands? What's lacking in their sound? I may be able to help you, but I have to what's the problem first. |

^ One thing is for sure, most Math Rock is almost completely based around rhythm from the percussion to the guitar playing. Those looking for some kind strummy riffting or catchy guitar playing will almost surely be disappointed imo. In Don Cab.'s case, most of their songs seem to revolve around the drummer (which i really dig) so fans of more mellow sounds probably wouldn't like it. (i assume)

^ or, as you suggest, fans of lead-oriented music ..Mathrockers tend to be true band units with less soloing and spotlighting

But still there are some math rock bands that have an incredible melody such as Toe, 65 Days Of Static and others and even if they don't have mellow rhythms some of there songs have a mellow part like Oxes.
