Not voting as I really feel all their albums have something different to offer up; probably one of my current favorite bands...however; if you want De-Loused, stay home and listen to it...honestly, if you can't move on, that's your problem.
It's the artists prerogative to be true to what they do...there's nothing in their contract stating they need to retain any sound/MO to fit strangers' expectations...we as listeners/appreciators should know this by now and not ask for anything save what we're given...if your argument then is that, "well, this is what they were like how can I NOT have expectations" stay home then, and listen to what 'they were like'; above all else, enjoy it, whatever IT is!

Made me an instant fan ever since I heard "Wax" and "Aberkula" (Especially its end).
Never heard more than a few Volta songs before last week, but that album impacted me a lot.

same here.... I liked.. sort of appreciated if you will.. the earlier efforts... yet when I saw the you-tube clips of some of the songs off of this over the holidays... I saw this was going to be the album that finally reeled me in as a fan. I don't listen enough to the earlier albums to really compare them other than.. hahha.. I like what I hear on this album.. and earlier albums didn't have 'it'. I'll be curious to know what my better half.. who is a big fan of the group has to say.

Can somebody who actually has the CD tell me how the production is?

The production is superb. It's far better than Amputecture, which had far too much treble and emphasis on vocals. The new album is more bass-heavy, like FTM, but more so. The rhythm section really shines and Omar's guitar work is as good as ever. I've been listening to it non-stop since I got my promo copy, and I think it's easily my favorite TMV album, and for one reason: They finally figured out how to just ROCK. I was really sick of getting 40 minutes of amazing music on a 75 minute album, but Bedlam is absolutely solid. No filler at all, and no pointless 10-minute noise explorations. It's definitely faster/more aggressive than most of their other work, and they've really written some strong melodies (dare I say... catchy?). That's not to say that it has any more mainstream appeal than the others; the music is still unforgivingly complex. It's a very awesome and very powerful record, and still retains everything that made TMV good in the first place while doing away with some of the more annoying parts.

Excellent. I like the production on FTM the best of the three albums.
Thanks.

Just listened to the napster stream and its definitely a step in the right direction. I like it much much more than Amp...still prefer FTM more, though I only heard it once. The energy is back, theres a good amount of varitey, and the songs go somewhere. The only thing against it would be its a little overlong. Those last two songs could have been trimmed for a better overall experience IMO.
I'll buy it at some point.

album's awesome. i love it; however I still like Frances and De-loused SLIGHTLY more (De-loused 9/10, Frances 9/10, Amp 7/10, Bedlam about an 8.99999/10 haha). So I voted "Good but not as good as their other albums", although I don't know if this was a fair vote and I almost want to take it back and vote for the second option about one of the year's masterpieces...oh well. Either way it's awesome.
It leaps and bounds above Amputechture though that's for sure, and practically as good as Frances was.
Either way, it's great, and I think it'll be bringing in lots of new fans...which will be interesting.

Bought the album earlier this afternoon.... Listening to it now, and the first impression so far is very positive. However, I suppose I will need more than one listen to fully appreciate it.

1. Frances the Mute 2. Bedlam in Goliath 3. De-loused in the Comatorium 4. Amputechture
It is a masterpiece album, however not their best. Frances the Mute is by far their best album, and one of my favourite prog albums of all time. It is beyond masterpiece IMO.

I've heard this now and I miss all the noise. I don't like the new drummer - he seems to have professional muso disorder and doesn't seem to be serving the songs all the time. I also wonder why they've stopped writing songs they way they did on De-loused; how much has the line-up changed since then?

Impressions after the first listen: Lots of promising sounding stuff, hard to say how good it's gonna be in the end. May well be better than Frances and Amputechture, but can't believe it'll beat Comatorium.

The noise on De-Loused was balanced, and some of it on Frances as well, but that latter had it in slight abundance. I really think the drummer is the only big change where personel is concerned, but he sure was good, wasn't he.. I think they may never again write a song as good as "Take the veil", it is such a masterpiece. With perfect drumming, as well.

Ah, we favour the same album. I'd pick "Drunkship of Lanterns" as my personal masterpiece, but I agree with everything you said. =)

First impression is that this could be an outstanding masterpiece, one of my favourites. Its certainly better than Amputechture and Frances the Mute, but I may have trouble deciding between this and De-Loused....

I wish the artwork on the inside of the booklet was better and more like the cover and back.
